Tach sensor location

I've acquired a camper on an L300 truck chassis (read plain jane) and there's no tach. I want to change the instrument panel to one that includes a tach, but don't know if there is an opening in the drive train to accept the sensor. It would see logical that there is. I've looked at the exploded drawings in the manuals section and can only find the speed sensor port. Are they one and the same? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks, Karl

On a 4D56 diesel engine, the tach sender (where fitted) is on the engine side of the injection pump. (The electric thing at the back of the pump is the fuel cutoff solenoid)
On a petrol engine, you'd just hook into the contact breaker side of the ignition coil.

So there appears to be a terminal on the engine side of the injector pump with a cable attached. I have to assume (risky) that this cable goes to the instrument panel and is available to hook up a tach in the dash. Now I need to find a donor for an instrument panel.
