looking at Delicas

I just signed up as I am doing my homework on Delicas.
I am looking for a L400 and considering the importers and also local ones for sale in Calgary ( I live in Canmore).
I plan to have this for road trips and for sleeping in it and camping. Not really looking for much offroad capability but drive 4wd now and like having the extra capability on rough terrain or snow when I need it.
A couple of quick questions:
LWB or SWB? Is that extra foot citical? LWB seems pretty rare and I am not sure I want to hold out for that extra space. Any down sides to the LWB (besides offroading).
My fiancee wants a pop top. I agree that would be nice. I am wondering if L400 can have a pop top installed later on. Has anyone done this?
Thanks.
Looking forward to being a delica owner.
Simon
ps already a Tercel 4wd enthisiast and found Tercel4wd.com forum to be super helpful

LWB has over 2 feet more of space, but like you said, it is not as good off road as the SWB.
A pop-top is great, but those are incredibly hard to find for the L400 series. They are out there, but you will be searching for some time to get one.
I think people in Australia have installed Pop-tops. No idea about Canada though.

Ok, so I am getting closer to picking up a Delica.
Can anyone recommend a place for an inspection in Edmonton?
I will need one for insurance as well, so looking to kill two birds here.
I hear plenty of stories of shops taking people for a ride with inspections so I put a lot of weight in a good recommendation.
I am looking for somewhere that is going to be honest, reputable and reasonable.
I know a great place in Calgary but it would be nice to get one done before I commit to buying.
Thanks
Simon

ok so I went for it and got the 95 L400.
Just got back from the maiden voyage in it. We went to Burning Man and put 4000km on it. No problems, loved driving it and it makes friends wherever it goes.
So far no problems. Getting about 10L/100km or around 22mpg (using diesel additive).
Can I get a tip on how to post pics and I will post some.

Burning Man!!! Awesome!! That's on my bucket list.
To post pics, upload them to a picture hosting site like Flickr or Photobucket. There will be a 'share' option, you want the BBCCode link and just copy and paste it into your message! It's easier than it reads.

Hi Simon, welcome to Delica Canada
When you have the "Post a reply" window opened, like I have right now as I'm typing out my response to your post, you will see a menu of buttons just above . As you drag your cursor over the buttons, you'll notice a brief description in what is called the "Tip:" line.
The "Delica FAQ Section", in "Delica Canada Technical", also has a "How to upload/display your own photos" thread that is helpful and there is also the "FAQ" button in the upper right area of the webpage. You can also start a photo gallery in Delica Canada and link from that, see the photo button (next to the FAQ button, upper right) and click on the appropriate button and follow the directions.
Do remember that there is a size limit to the images (800 X 900 px). There is also a size limit to attachments (800 KiB).
Falco.
