How big can you go on the spare?

Does anybody know how big a Rim and tire I can still fit in my stock spare tire compartment. I want bigger Rims and tires as I have a suspension upgrade inbound and I'd love to keep storing the spare underneath. Can anybody help?

Alternatively, these sexy rear mounted spare carriers... Anybody know where to get one?

Thanks in advance!!!

The evolution begins!

spare should be the same size as the tires you run or it will be hard on the system to run 4x4 and I really suspect very hard on the full-time option on the L400.

I definitely want to keep all the tires the same size I just am wondering if you can fit a bigger spare under the van or it only will store a stock tire and rim. I want to go bigger on all 4 plus the spare but I would LOVE to still be able to store it under the ride.

Sorry for any confusion but thank you for your response.

Stock size only. You'd have to build the metal carrier bigger but it's so tight under the rear I doubt it could b done. My stock tire worked well in a pinch even though It was slightly smaller.

I tuck a 30" tire under my L400.

I assume to fit a 30" spare under the van you let most of the air out of it, is that true?

Do you have any problem with the tire rubbing underneath and wearing through?

Fully expanded to operating pressure. It's an aggressive AT3 cooper. Takes a couple minutes of maneuvering and up it goes. It's tight but that's good. I hate shifting noises. The same tires fit my L300 as well.
