Hey guys. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 34 year old van freak. I'm in the market for a pre-89 TD Delica. I'm also interested in supercharged 2-cylinder microvans (Carry, Domingo, etc). I currently only have one van, but it's pretty cool! A restored 1970 Subaru 360 van. My daily driver is a Subaru XV Crosstrek, but I'm thinking once I get a Delica I'll never want to drive anything else :-)

Anyways, I have a lead on one, but might not be able to purchase until after the holidays. Hopefully I'll be posting pics of my new ride soon!

And since I'm here I'd like to ask a question. Is there any companies still doing Camper conversions on Delicas? I ask because finding a pre-89 TD in good shape with a camper conversion is basically impossible so I'm considering all options. I have to have pre-89 to import to California. It has to be diesel too to be smog exempt here. I live near Mt. Baldy so that's where I camp most of the time.

One more question and it's kind of silly. Can you hear the turbo on the TD motors? I love the sound of a TD with the chattering mixed with the turbo, but in all the Delica vids I can't hear the turbo. It's not a deal breaker either way, but I'd love to hear it.

LOVE the van.

I've found the L300s have quite a turbo sound. The L400 with 4M40 (and my pajero) make much less of a turbo sound.

Welcome!

Love it. And I love the contrast of the ugly hummer in the background.

hey I too am from California and have lusted after weird import vans for years (& I too, own a subaru 360 van...not nearly as nice and complete as yours) after owning many (5) USDM starwagon vans, I bit the bullet and bought a JDM 4x4 diesel (an 86') just a few short months ago...love the thing...just don't expect to do much of a freeway commute (gearing is low) but swapping a US market turbo diesel (TDI 2.L?) into a USDM van would be awesome...perhaps a 4x4 conversion with toyota axles...it is ALL possible!....& yea, you hear a little bit of the turbo wine/spool over the clack clack clack...but an intake snorkel and exhaust system always help

If you are anywhere near Cypress, CA you might have to bring your acquired JDM Mitsu's and roll on over to the Mitsubishi Owners Day sometime in early July 2014.
I have gone to the 2012 and 2013 MOD shows in Calgary with my own L400. The dealer luvs it when Mitsu JDM's make an appearance.

The video clip from the Cypress event shows a Mitsu van at 2.52-2.57 and its got a Cali plate.
