Replacing wheel lugs

Snapped off a wheel stud the other day on the front of the L300. I see you cannot drive the studs out without removing the wheel hub first. I also cannot tell if you need to remove the allen bolts that seem to hold the axel flange in place to get at the (14mm?) nuts that hold the wheel hub on?
When searching for an answer here I also found some question about proper sized studs and acorn nuts. Is it correct that the proper size nut is 12mmx1.5? I suppose another way to resolve the issue would be just buy a set of matching studs and nuts as long as they will fit the stock wheels.
