Snapped off a wheel stud the other day on the front of the L300. I see you cannot drive the studs out without removing the wheel hub first. I also cannot tell if you need to remove the allen bolts that seem to hold the axel flange in place to get at the (14mm?) nuts that hold the wheel hub on?

When searching for an answer here I also found some question about proper sized studs and acorn nuts. Is it correct that the proper size nut is 12mmx1.5? I suppose another way to resolve the issue would be just buy a set of matching studs and nuts as long as they will fit the stock wheels.

Here's the manual for the front axle on the L300, but you need to:
Remove the brake caliper and its mounting bracket from the steering knuckle.
Disassemble the 4WD hub and the spindle nuts.
(Partsource has a free rental kit for 4WD spindle nut removal)
Separate the brake rotor from the hub.
Then you can remove the broken stud.....be careful not to hit the hub when you hammer out the old stud.

The thread pitch is not the only thing you need to match.

Overall stud length
The diameter of the serrated portion at the base.
The length of the serrations

There are many variants (images not of delica studs).

Thanks a lot for that information. Sounds like I've got my work cut out for me. As I'm in Banff that spindle nut removal sounds like it's is going to be problematic, I'll see if I can borrow one locally.

Looks like that link to the manual is broken BTW, I'm not having any luck.
