The Cool Box..

Hey there folks,

Since I'm sucking up all kinds of excellent information on my van here, I thought I'd ask a question about the cool box up front....

So I have a '93 Super Exceed with every available option including the box mentioned above. This past summer was my first with the van and I tried the cool box on a longer trip I took. It seemed to blow really cold air but only intermittently. Thus not really keeping the pops all that cool.

It's not a big deal really, but has anyone had better luck with these things or is this as good as it gets??
Maybe it could be recharged?? The actual AC for thew van works quite well and will cool the van down inside on a hot summer day with no issues.

Anyway it's freezing here now so I don't even know why I'm posting this.... A little curious I guess.

Cheers, Phil

When i had my L300 we were able to cycle freezer packs from the cool box to our food cooler on our trip across canada and it worked great. You have to tuck them into the lower slot in the cooler to actually freeze. Probably 3-400km driving to refreeze a pack . I miss that van everything on it worked great.

Thats cool, "pun intended"

I have the little freezer pack you mentioned in my van too. It's kinda hard to access it but it's there.

Next long trip I take I'm goona try and see if it will freeze the ice pack. But I guess it won't be till next summer now as I think you have to have the AC on for it to cool.... It's frikken cold enough right now as it is...

i get more use out of my AC in the winter than I do in the summer by a long stretch. With the AC on and the heat up high it's nice and warm and, thanks to the AC, nice and dry too.

Ok, sorry I'm not following.... You have the heat on with the AC?? How does that work?? I read in my Delica glove box manual (which I got on Amazon from the UK) that the AC needs to be on to make the cool box work. But I'm guessing you can have the button pressed for AC but still have the heat going for inside the cabin.... Thus keeping the Cool Box going yet not interfering with the cabin temp??

I don't know about the cool box - don't have one. But I do know that the AC dries the air nicely. In the winter, when the windows fog up on the inside the AC, the heater and the fan get the cab warm and dry and the windows clear of fog. In the summer I occasionally use the AC with the temperature control on the cold position for that nice chilled air, but here on the south coast I really do make more use out of the AC in the winter.
