Power Madness

Post by mycale »

have not drove the truck for 2 months. No one ran it at all for over two months in underground parking. Drove truck one day, no issues, except BATTERY LIGHT and the fuel water light both came on at the same time. Then today, the stereo started going in and out, then the RPM indicator stopped working, the Speed dial stopped, no AC, no dash indicators for direction indicators, even though the lights externally were working ok. Stopped at Glenwood meats in Langford, turned truck off…tried to turn back on, ZERO…no click no second click, no nothing…shut off all power (fans and etc) waited 5 mins…heard the dreaded click click click of the alternator…no chance, not turning over…WestShore towing, got a boost. truck started fine…left it running…5 mins later…driving…all dash board dead. Stereo shutting on and off…no sound when on…THEN truck DIED COMPLETELY right in the middle of Wale Rd and Goldstream: at the stop light, tried high-beams and that's when It died completely…thankfully RCMP drove by and helped me push it into a semi-safe spot. got a tow home…thinking, battery for sure needs changing. 4 years old…nearly 5. Hoping alternator isn't dead…gotta check fuses tomorrow. anything i should be looking for??? jeezuz, had the wife and kids and it was full panic stations out there on a busy road…whoa nice folks right at the corner got us some chairs and some water!!! :-)

Sounds like your alternator to me if it died while you were driving it, also check and clean your battery terminals.

But I think the alternator... that's my guess

Glad to hear you got it all fixed up... I had a 78 ford pick up truck and the stereo stopped working and then the fan then signals because the alternator stopped working. Good thing was the truck could still run as I was driving through the canyon heading to vancouver. Turned it off and the at was it.
