Is a wvo conversion in a 1998 chamonix gen2 possible? I already purchased the van and was told that the conversion may not be possible.
I am searching the forums for the answer but i dont use the search function much so it may take me awhile to find the answer myself but i am trying just thought i should also ask. thx for any help
cheers.

From what I understand, the big concern with conversions is whether the engine is direct or indirect injection. Direct injection engines coke up quite badly with WVO. Other than that I'm not sure. It's possible that they have smog sensors on the later engines that get messed up smelling carrot farts instead of dino farts, but I'm not sure. Hopefully others who know more about that engine can chime in. If its the same engine that's in the earlier L400, it should be able to, I'm thinking.

Is there an EZ way to tell if its direct injection?

From what I understand of the technology, if you have separate steel lines coming from a single rotary type injection pump going to 4 relatively small injectors, it's indirect. Modern diesels are often common rail where all injectors are tied together by a common high pressure fuel feed and the injectors themselves are electronically controlled to shoot directly into the combustion chamber. The injectors are a lot larger and will have wires going to them from the ECU.

I believe all the 4M40 variants are indirect injection. The difference between series 1 and 2 is series 1 is a mechanical injector, series 2 is electric.
