My tach is intermittent on my L300. There is no rhyme or reason, sometimes it works when the beast is fired up or not. I can be booking it down road for a period of time and then it will just magically begin to work or just fluctuate for a bit, then not work at all, then begin to work without any further issues. All other gauges are fine. Any suggestions?

I was having same problem on my 1997 L300. And when tach stopped working, so too did fuel guage and coolant temp. Would work when dash got hot in sunshine, or if thumped. My speedo always worked, I think it is a manual item not electrical.
Solution, undo the 4 screws that take off just the instrument area cover (not the stereo or main dash area). There should be a posting somewhere years ago showing the location of the 4 screws, one is super hard to find. See the big wire cable which is big round black plug and has maybe a dozen thin wires leading in to plug, which goes into the back of the instrument panel, Mine had a loose wire (I think it was a skinny black one at about 3 oclock position). Tighten or replace the wire. BE CAREFUL, these wires are very delicate in size, do not tug anything.
Good luck Christine.
