Hey everyone

My A/C is not working properly and so I am assuming it needs a recharge. I am worried that I might do a recharge and find that I have leaks and my work/cash will all be for not.

The other unfortunate thing is that I live in Regina and I am not sure if there are any mechanics around that will work on a delica....

Can anyone suggest a mechanic in Regina?

Has anyone done a recharge? is it pretty straight forward?
all i know about my a/c system is that it was retro fitted to a R134 around 36171km ( close to 90000 now). I am not really even sure what the R134 means. Is this a type of refrigerant?
Can anyone point me in the right direction to some instructions if I try this myself?

And on a non-related A/C issue, does any know where to buy a synthetic 15w 40 in Regina/ Saskatoon?

Peavy mart sells amzoil synthetic. You can also look in your phone book for a shell bulk dealer. I get my synthetic from them at times. As well check out the diesel oil section at can tire. They sell shell rotella synthetic as well as other brands.

As for your main question check, if in your shoes and not in a rush I would arrange for Jason (Manitobadeli ) to check it out. I'm in Saskatoon. I might even have the guys at ok tire pressurize the system with their dyed gas to see if they could find a leak. They did that for my Subaru. I'm sure any place that fixes AC could at least do that.

Need to know the year of your L300. About 1993 (not sure of exact date) the fittings for AC changed to the new standardized fittings that are still in use now on all vehicles. The older fittings can be an issue, if the technician insists that he must first change all your old fittings to new ones, because he doesnt have the old fitting connection for the refilling ($$$ be careful, some rip-off stories were posted a few years ago on this forum).

IF you have up to a 1992 model, I know the sight glass is under the carpet of the passenger footwell, so that you can view the glass to see if bubbles of refridgerant are visible. If there are no details about that on other postings, I can look up in my russek manual and give you details, or look on my 1991 L300. I don't know the details of 1993 and up sight glass, but if you're stumped I can go crawl around on my 1997 one.

Sometimes it is the compressor pump gone. Sometimes just the belt has died. Sometimes the fluid has evaporated (apparently this is common with age).

Most of us in BC dont bother with the expense of getting the AC working again.

Oh, on mine if you push in the AC button on the dash/heater area, that activates it, and then push in again to pop the button out which deactivates it. Does take a few minutes to get cold.
