Well I just got my Deli out of the shop from an out-of-province inspection here in Alberta. It went very well except for the tires (i already knew that) and the front driveshaft rear u-joint. So now I need to find a part number!!
I tried searching but couldn't come up with a number. Im wondering if anyone knows what Im looking for and if I can get it here at CanTire or NAPA. I would really appreciate it so I can get on with driving my beauty!!

I had to deal with this not long ago. Don't just replace one, replace them both. I got mine from Lordco, get the more expensive ones as well because labour is where the cost is.
399 = rear
398 = front

We dont have a Lordco in Alberta, I think its only a B.C. store. So am I lead to believe that both front U-joints are 398's or do they usualy come with two??

You would be correct. Apparently you can simply ask for a 1988 Montero's U-joints and you should get what you're after, I was unlucky and my mechanic was sent the wrong part when I did this though..

Awesome!! Went to NAPA and they had 2 398's in stock!! they were 35 bucks each. A little pricy for a u-joint, but what was I expecting.
I read in the other thread that some shop had charged NXSKI for 3.5 hrs!!! I am no mechanic, just a little farm boy know-how and I replaced both front u-joint in about 45 min with a hammer and socket without jacking my van up. If you are charged 3.5 hrs to have this done in a real shop with a lift by a real mechanic..... DONT GO BACK!!!!!

Hey, Just wanted to say thanks for the info on the U Joint numbers. Was on a climbing road trip, day one my rear u joint blew. Was able to pick on up from Lordco and fix it up in the parking lot. Made my trip. Thanks!
