so, there appears to be 2 switches to turn on rear wiper. A control arm that is on the left side of the steering wheel - if i move up and down it controls the front wipers, and if I rotate the end of it, well, nothing happens, but it looks like a wiper control - it has different settings for slow, intermittent, and fast.
the second set of controls is on the dash - a toggle type switch that say "int" on one side and "on" on the other - if i press this switch in, then water squirts on the rear window... but if i push to either on or int, nothing happens.
how i use rear wiper is by holding down the "gate unlock" button. i need to hold it to get it to work.

also, when i turn on the delica, if the gate was locked, i can hear it unlock as soon as i turn the key....
i'm thinking there are some little delica gremlins screwing the 'lectrical system......

any thoughts??

Yup. Something is running funny.
Usually the switch on the left turns on the wipers and pushing it further squirts the water. The arm off the steering column doesn't do anything and is mis marked.

I found that the rotating stalk switch on the wiper control arm does actually increase and decrease the wiper speed on low, The switch does feel pretty cheesy though so maybe they wear out commonly

But it doesn't affect the rear wiper

As above really, the stalk is entirely for the front, I wonder if the switch failed and they rewired the rear lock switch to drive it, badly. Or it could be some weird funny going on where one thing earths through another, like we get on old ford tail light clusters here.

That sounds really messed up, but given that the rear wiper and the rear door lock are both in the rear door, I wonder if someone's just swapped around the wiring at that end. I'd start there- remove the interior panel and check out the wiring. I suspect someone's plugged the power lock wire into the wiper motor, but god only knows why. Maybe the original wiring for the wiper motor burnt out, or maybe it's just a fuse?

For the record, the switch on the dash controls the rear wiper. Centred is off, one way is intermittent, the other way is on, and in any position pressing the rocker in will operate the wash motor. Usually I'd wash the rear window by switching the rocker to "on", then pushing it in to operate the wash motor.

The stalk on the column should have 4 positions: off, intermittent, slow, fast. In twisty bit on the end sets how often the wipers go when in intermittent, but has no other function.
