combo switch - HELP? - photos link

PROBLEM- a while ago the headlight switch lost its *click* (I thought I felt a sort of crunch, thought something internal might of snapped)...a few days ago (similar maybe crunch) I completely lost my turn signals. Hi/low lights, wipers still good
I did my homework on this site last night. So today:
On parts van-
Removed steering wheel
Removed and disconnected combo switch (wiper/lights)
...simple...
On my van
removed steering wheel...
disconnected the switch
BUT
there are other wires connected into the existing harness on the combo switch side...the connections look corroded and i have no idea where they go to. Nothing similar in parts van. Might be a new problem, might be turn signal problems.
Yes, I connected the *new* combo switch to my van, and the lights work...no turn signals...but I'm not certain they would work without the whole shebang re-assembled (steering wheel back on - should i try that?)
Interested in problem solving with me real time? I'll keeep busy stripping other parts off the beater, eagerly awaiting any response from you good helpers. Remember, I am remote.
Phone won't let me upload as attachment, but I could upload through my flickr site.
