Have you seen the news? I can't post links from my phone, but some scary stuff is going on there. I wish the best to those dealing with it now (I know at least one Delica.ca member is in the area).
It's more a matter of talking about what's going on in our backyard. I monitor the news from elsewhere in the world, and some even more horrific things occur in other countries all the time. I find myself out of touch with some places, whereas having visited Boston in the last year, I felt a more personal connection to this event.

iRemember managing an on line political chat room around the turn of the millennium. It started off as "911 War Chat" and was primarily American in membership, but there were the odd Brit, Canadian involved, including myself. As the chat room progressed the name changed to "A Sounding Board" and there was a greater membership from everywhere, back when anyone in the world could access the internet and things were way easier to find. Many of the Americans in the chat room (these were typically really decent people, btw) couldn't understand why some cultures appeared to dislike the Americans, after all the wonderful things that America had done for these cultures, like Unicef, bringing humanitarian relief to the children. The picture above comes from an Afghani news agency. Now there's a place that has been an interesting story for the British and more recently for the Soviets, Americans and now the Canucks.
It's difficult to determine why exactly those bombs went off in Boston ~ could be a symptom of issues coming back to roost, or perhaps it's a domestic affair such has happened a lot in the recent decades, who knows. Would be curious to discover if the perpetrators are traced back to North Korea or Iran... And now a word from our sponsors:

It is extremely unlikely that this will be traced back to an actual nation.
Nation states tend to use weapons like artillery and missiles, not bombs in public places.
Extremists use bombs in public places. Like Timothy McViegh.
They real kind of question is what sort of extremists did this?

Perhaps nations like Russia could take that approach but I somehow don't see, say ~ the Iraqi air force carpet bombing DC.
Well, I was listening to CBC Radio One (a morning show) the other day and it turns out that these young men (originally from Pakistan) were connected to "Al Qaeda" to which American intelligence reports is now suggesting ties to Iran. Since this has transpired the Canadians have made similar discoveries regarding the plot to bomb a Via Rail passenger train. Having read this, I read now that the RCMP are denying the Iran connexion ~ but it's in the news now, consequently in the public psyche. Just an observation.
