Creeking / crack sound when turning sharp

When I crank the steering all the way it makes a sort of creeking almost crack type sound.

It seems to drive fine. I know the bushings on my shocks are shot and hopefully they get replaced but I don't think that's it.

Thoughts?

Sounds like the CV joint on the front half shafts (axles to the wheels)

Most likely you have a torn boot on one and dirt got in...however they do wear out...

Thank you gentlemen... Cost from a labor perspective?

And I'm hoping this is one of the many parts I can use a Montero part for... ?

Unless you are in 4wd and turning sharp it may not be a CV joint. Weak CV's click and knock constantly in a hard turn when they are wore out, but that only happens under load (4wd needs to be engaged).

There are steering stops on the lower control arms that align with a pair of studs on the steering knuckles. Dirt and rust will build up on the wear points and can contribute to the noise you described.

And you're not the first to have this issue.

Check into the cheap/free fixes first. Cleaning, lubing, check front end parts for wear. Process of elimination.

Ok...thanks Big-Bird.

It does it when I'm in 2 wheel.

Thanks for the link...
