Just curious if the attached picture is of the "city lights" on my deli?
Out of curiosity, how are these not compliant? I'd love to be able to get rid of the module the person that imported my van installed.

I'm looking at a "Sample Import Requirements" file I got from the transport canada website and under "Daytime running lights" and it says "Daytime running light assembly installed – part or type". If I understand correctly, they are more concerned with having a module rather then a bulb that does the exact same thing?

If I wired my module to the city lights rather then my low beams would that be adequate to pass and inspection, or at least prevent a ticket from a cop?

My headlights have been burnt out for months (I don't even notice) but I use those as running lights now. I heard they were considered parking lights.

I hated that module too. Mine always made weird noises as I started the van up, and it was incorrectly wired through the Turbo timer so it sucked power from the glow plugs during start up.

If you don't mind a little work - LEDs hardly draw any power.

Those look great. Where did you order those if you don't mind me asking?

Though I'm thinking of buying a bright LED and installing it in the socket I labelled in the picture I posted. Are there lumen requirement for running lights?

I passed my inspection with these - they are not super bright though. I wasn't able to find any clear regulations regarding DRLs, most of the discussion I found regarding them was related to new cars. Banggood has tons of other LED lights, you can probably find something for the city light if you poke around a bit. They are super cheap, but you have to wait 4-6 weeks for them to arrive with the free shipping.

If the "city lights" are not compliant as headlights, are they compliant as DRL lamps? seeing as you can slap on any old LED as a DRL maybe it is an option to wire up those lamps as a drl? Just trying to think of clean looking DRLs that wont run the main headlamps or high beams all the time

Walmart sells cheap stick on Led strip lights that we used for compilance.

Those are the same stick on LED's I sourced from China - only they are only $3.90 including shipping!

Even if you pay the extra to express ship, they are still much cheaper.

I'm glad to know the Tardis deli uses these lights, it validates my choice. By the way, did you guys mount them inside the headlights, or did you stick them on the outside somewhere? Just curious.

Outside below the headlight but on the headlight housing.We got this idea from Mardy plus we added in a relay so the Leds come on when you start the engine but go off when you turn on the headlights.

+1! Super cool. I want to do the same thing inside the headlight housing. Any tips/tricks/info? What did you wire it into? I'd love a little build writeup! :D

No prob - here are the basic instructions:

It's actually easier on the L300, once you get the headlights out. I used the oven technique, but I found that there was only a simple gasket, and no goop holding it all together. Having said that, I do think that heating it up in the oven did really help loosen everything up. But basically, you just pop the clips off, and then pry the whole thing apart - use common sense though, you don't want to damage the lenses.

Once it's apart, you peel and stick the LED strips however you like. I used the side illuminated style. I drilled a small hole in the back of the light assembly, fed the wire though, and sealed it up with a little silicone. Put the whole thing back together, feed the wires into the cab, put the lights back in. If you want them to turn off when the headlights are on - see Jay and Christine's post above (show offs!). I used the circuit from the DRL module for power, but I think you can use almost any circuit that comes on with with the ignition (but not the accessory position.) You can buy the light strips from walmart for $40(ish), or you can order them online for $4 from china including shipping but you have to wait 6 weeks (link a few posts earlier).

The hardest part is getting the headlights out. You can search here to see how to do it.
