injector #1 blown out of manifold!

While driving my 96 L400 today my #1 injector decide to eject its self from the engine.

There was a load pop then fast popping and I pulled over and shut down the engine. While looking at the engine I had my son turn over the engine to hear where the sound was coming from. I could see the injector sitting high above the head, held by the the fuel lines. It appears that the threads let go in the head.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to attack this problem? Im in Nova Scotia and there are not of Delica Service and Part location here. Im thinking drill, and insert a heli-coil. {spelling?} Can you get larger injector holders so you can just tap new larger threads?
Thanks for your help Delica World.

Yikes... That happened with a spark plug on my old VW bus. I kept driving from Qualicum to Victoria on the old hwy. Not too bright in retrospect, but hey, I got home. Hoped for the easy, heli-coil fix, but ended up with a new head - the best, real fix option. Good luck - keep us posted.

Just cleaned up the injector and found the the threads were full of carbon. No aluminium bits. I had noticed before that the injector was dirtier than the rest. i thought it was becouse it was the most exposed. it may have been loose and been blowing by for some time. Im heading out to take a close look at the threads on the head. Im crossing everything i hopes that the threads are good, just packed with carbon also.
A little prayer and out I go!

Helicoil probably wouldn't work. One of these probably would though! :

Thanks for the info. It look as if this is what I'm going to need. The upper threads are gone on the head. I cant find it locally here so it look like I will order it online.
Thanks Again

Hello again
Well I'm driving again.
Thank you Diver for your tip. I contacted Time-Sert and they were great on the phone. I was very pleased with the kit.
The hardest part of the job was drilling the head as the bit would dig into the aluminum and bind. I had to cut an inch off the bit shank to shorten it length for a better fit. It took some doing but it worked. I was able to tap the threads using a ratchet handle.
I dove it last night for the test drive and then on the highway today. Knock on wood it is still holding.
Thanks everyone
Doug
