Depo headlight

I've had my 92 L300 for a couple years now and am just getting around to switching the headlights. I got the headlights a year ago but never switched them at that time. When I went to do that this weekend I found that the plugs don't match. The wiring from the van is a 3 prong female (traingular) and the wiring from the headlight assembly is a 4 prong male (square).
I'm going to have to cut the plug off the old light and put on the new headlights. Anybody else had to do this or have you been able to plug van to light no problem?
Cheers

I just want to triple check before going about chopping the connector off my new headlights that this is in fact the correct solution.
Wiring a 4-prong female connector onto the van’s harness is not done?
I got the idea from the parts supplier that I acquired the lights from that I shouldn’t splice any connectors to the new lights / that the van’s wiring should be modified to accept Depo headlights without any changes to the headlamp itself. Maybe something got mixed up over the phone and they just don’t want to accept liability for a poor splice job (very fair)?

Connector spliced onto my old headlights (where the solution in this thread was apparently employed; by previous owner or mechanic):

If you modify the van's harness, then you are dependent on the aftermarket parts and an "unknown" connector for any future changes/work.
