Hello from Vancouver

Hello Folks,

Its my first time so please be gentle.

I'm currently driving a 1995 Nissan XE gas V6 4x4 pickup and I'm ready to move over to the diesel world.

The idea of RHD and changing lanes, and passing on highways makes me nervous.

Been a 4x4 driver for 20 years now, first an '85 Nissan pickup and currently a '95. I got into 4x4 vehicles after I found myself carrying around two planks in the back of my Datsun station wagon to cross water ditches on logging roads and spinning out on steep grades.

I like to do a lot of back roading, but with the price of gas I have been severely cut back.

I'm 59, a journalist and musician. Grew up on Vancouver island and live in East Vancouver now.

Several friends have Delicas and I'm getting tempted. I go on some pretty rugged 4x4 trips though and I'd like to hear your experiences on how the Delica handles water bar ditches, small stream crossings and rockslides across roads. I need a vehicle I can sleep in too.

And I am very curious about fuel consumption. that's the big reason I want to get rid of my V6 Nissan pickup

Thanks,

Hope to talk to you some more.

Hey Hublocker ~ welcome to Delica Canada :M

It's something that you must try on and wear ~ perhaps politely ask your friends if you could test drive their Delicas. Remember that a lane is a lane, whether the left is on the right or the right is one the left ~ and if you can't see if the path is clear then wait until it is.

My favourite is the P25W Starwagon, the low roof L300. It has a very short wheel base (88.5"); can drive around a tree and is low enough to get under many of the branches. I put a one and a half inch lift on, have driven at a 40 degree lateral angle (really low centre of gravity); forded short three foot deep bodies of water ~ You can find vids of Delicas doing this sort of stuff on YouTube.

When looked after ~ the fuel economy can be good. You can find a number of threads on this via either of the two search engines.

There is a strong L400 (Space Gear) community growing in Delica Canada, another option to consider.

Make yourself at home... smiles.

Falco.
