The handshake
The handshake is thought by some to have originated as a gesture of peace by demonstrating that the hand holds no weapon.
Archaeological ruins and ancient texts show that handshaking was practiced in ancient Greece as far back as the 5th century BC.
Today, it is commonly done upon meeting, greeting, parting, offering congratulations, expressing gratitude, resolving disputes, reconnecting or completing an agreement.
Its purpose is to convey trust, balance, and equality.
It is also an effective way to overcome social anxiety disorder for people that have trouble making eye and physical contact in front of a group of people.
I've always been taught that a heartfelt handshake with good eye contact is a respectful way to conduct one's self in most situations.
