Cooling lines for turbo

Looking for help finding the best places to tie into my cooling system on my 91 Delica to cool my turbo. Have a turbo with a water jacket.

The second picture with the oily line is a line off the discharge side of the water pump and goes to the heater. I thought I could tie into this as the source. Can anyone tell me how this line is attached? Does it have an O-ring and just slip into that housing?

The first picture is the back left side of the head where a heater line returns. I thought this would be a good place to run a return coolant line from the turbo.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thank you!

The manual I have only shows an oil cooled turbocharger. Pages 12/13 L300 Intake & Exhaust manual (book 15)

Correction: Jesse points out that water and oil lines are shown. So I am insure about which version this is supposed to be.

If you go to the L300 Dedicated Reference Library; click on L300 Shop Manual Downloads; Intake & Exhaust Manual; Page 15-12 is an exploded illustration of the intake and exhaust manifolds. Items 10 & 11 are the water feeds for the turbochargers that came with them. Hope this helps.

Falco, he does not have a post-93 water cooled cylinder head ~ so your reference doesn't apply here.

Robin, this is what you are seeking. Just snapped the pictures of a pre-93 oil cooled 4D56T on an engine stand.

Feed line:

1. the heater line is a press fit with an o-ring into the thermostat housing. You can splice into there for the feed line to the turbo.

Return line:

1. tee back into the heater line (wraps around the rear of the valve cover)

or

2. run a braided line down to the block (pics 5/6) where a 12mm bolt leads into coolant passage

Would be a good idea for mod's to merge these two threads as they are related: http://www.delica.ca/forum/turbo-advice-12729.html

Robin

A reference point below, you can see the outlet (at the thermostat housing) -> Turbo inlet on a 4M40 an inch beside the heater line (like the 4D56T)

The point of entrance on the L300 thermostat housing where the solid heater line presses into, is in a similar position as the 4M40 outlet.

An A/C shop may have the tools required to either utilize the existing solid heater line/splice off to the turbo, or fabricate a new line that goes from the thermostat housing direct into the turbo and then out continuing along to the heater line <-> hose connection.

Cheers
