i want to remove the IP from my parts van. the repair manual says i need a special puller to get the sprocket off. can someone elaborate please? do i need the puller? is it a common tool? what do i ask for if i want to borrow this tool from a mechanic friend?

A large flathead screwdriver and a tap/mallet will do the same job. Use the screwdriver as a wedge between the IP body and the sprocket/from the top down. Give the screwdriver a tap with the mallet and the sprocket pops off.

Have someone waiting to catch it so it doesn't fall and damage the teeth.

I used a cheap puller from canadian tire...much easier and safer in my opinion...parts aren't easy/cheap to come by for these vehicles, so what 10 bucks on a puller you will use again anyways...
