Sorry for the noob questions, but we're looking at buying our first Pajero. We've found one we like but it's missing its small passenger side mirror that sits up at the front of the truck. What is that mirror called? Any idea what they run (if you don't find a used one)?

They're called Fender Mirrors. Sorry but I have no idea what they are worth for a paj. I would check ebay if looking for a new one or there are a few wrecked paj's out there that depending what color you are looking for could probably find one. Even paint it later.

The fender mirror that comes with the vehicle is practically useless in North America, unless you have a habit of parallel parking to the curb on your left side. The mirror does not look behind you so much as it does down at the curb - it's a parking mirror.

That being said, there are some after-market mirrors that can be mounted in that same location that will work as a rear-view mirror: look for something from the Mini or Rover groups. Old Datsuns had them too, as I recall. And make sure you get a metal one, because there are lots of cheap plastic ones out there, and you just don't want one of those.

When we test-drove one Paj, it had the mirror on it, and it was handy for getting a feel for how close you are to the yellow line. But I'm starting to think that once you're familiar with driving from the right and have a good feel for where the vehicle is in the lane, you don't need it anyway. You can see the yellow line in the passenger door mirror too. And I'm finding that the HUGE rear side windows are awesome for shoulder-checking too.
