glow plug issues??

Good Afternoon,

Went to start up a few min ago and no go. Really slow turning over. New Odessey battery last year, new alternator 3 years ago when I bought the van and it turns over so the starter seems ok i think. When I cycle the glow plugs a few times normally it would click closer together the second cycle. Not today. Any way to check if it is infact glow plug issues. the block heater works fine too.

Any thoughts

Thanks

check with a voltmeter to see if current is passing through the wire that goes to the bus bar and at the click intervals if it spikes.

I've found that the main wire that goes to the busbar supplying voltage, often that connection is old and can limit the amount of current flowing through.

Also the busbar can have some corrosion on it.

My solution has been to do away with the busbar by cutting a fresh cut at the main wire and then splicing it 4-ways directly to each glow plug. This will ensure that each plug is receiving the same voltage.

Thanks Jesse,

Not sure where the relay is for the glow plugs. Can you point me in the right direction? Will be getting a voltmeter later today. I went out today to poke around a bit and thought I would give it another try. Turned the key to engage glow plugs, first click engaged and all the lights in the van went really dim and no second click. Tried to crank it anyway and nothing at all. May be there is more happening than I think.

Thanks for the additional advice.

Cheers

Rob

Slide the driver side seat forwards, open the hatch underneath, look towards the rear of the van and you should see the relays. You may need to remove a 'tube' that's in the way. For reference, this is where the top of the air filter is. Good luck...

I read that someone related this symptom to alternator problem. It may fail again even its being replace 3 years ago. Just a little idea and help.

Ok, so now where do I locate the fuse. Or how do I test the relays?

Thanks guys.

Run a wire from your battery, touch the wire against the bolt on the relay and you should hear a click, of you don't your relay isn't working. I hope someone can explain this more clearly for you though... :?

No click running a wire direct from the battery. I guess its toast. Not sure what to do now......

Go to the Vendors section to see a list of suppliers and contact info for Mitsu relays or buy a substitute from our local parts shops.

I presume you've already checked your battery voltage. Relays don't work if the voltage is to low!
