Does anyone know if it is legal to drill a hole in a license plate in Alberta?

I did. Haven't gotten in trouble for it. I think it is OK as long as you don't drill through the stickers.

I had to, in order to mount my plate on my pajero. No issues as of yet, just do not deface the alpha numerics nor the stickers

Thanks for the input guys. It certainly is the simplest solution. Picked up a couple of 6mm bolts at bolt supply and I'm off to drill a hole.

I went to Rona. It looks better to have the plates properly secured rather than hanging off one screw.

Not sure there but here in BC you 'can' be scuffed at for doing any modifications to it including drilling additional holes as it is technically ICBC's property.
With that said, I have never heard, read or seen from the VPD/RCMP side of any infractions regarding alternate mounting holes so long as it does not impede or alter the #/A's and date/emblem.
