Committing to my DELI purchase (real early)

I was going for the L300 model and planned on waiting until fall of 2012 so I could get the late 1997 build year. Well plans do change and a great deal on an L400 came up and I pounced on it.
Stay tuned Deli fans as I work out the details: Its supposed to be enroute to BC on Dec 28.

Yellow.....not this time, I actually prefer blue and my Nissan purchase back in 2001 would have been blue but the price on the yellow one was too good to pass up. Here it is in living color.

Ah you went with this one

Good call. Nice ride for the money.
Have you decided on who will you get to do the compliance and mechanical work?

I'm dealing with Ben directly and he has been quite helpful. Should be getting the deposit to him this week. Sure looks like a good ride but it does have some minor scrapes to address.
As for compliance, its gonna live in Alberta so I am open to suggestions that are Calgary based. Got any in mind?

Looks awesome! Are you flying out to get it and drive it home? I would suggest, as a fellow Albertan, to get all the compliance and mechanicals in order in Vancouver before you hit the road. The difference in price for the same work being done just one province over is incredible. There are several great shops to do this work in Van-area for you. My 3 cents.

care to recommend one in BC. I am quite capable at most mechanical repairs but the diesel assessment should be done by a tech that knows Mitsu's

The big three in the lower mainland (unless you make the trip to the island ~ Coombs Auto)
Amazing Auto Imports - longest history of Delica-related alongside Coombs Auto and known for being thorough with priority on preventative solutions
CVI Automotive - long history of servicing diesels, specifically Delica's. Known as the 'delica gods'
Rising Sun Imports - short history but fast growing. huge parts supply. mixed reviews. better one's of recent.
I would pick one of the first two but I'm biased. Your best bet would be to look in the feedback section on this forum.
The one saying with all of these JDM vehicles rings true over the years.
"Preventative maintenance saves you $$ in the long run." This is without question. Use this as your guiding stick.
Example. This is something you do not want to hear from someone working on your vehicle from a customer standpoint.
joedelica wrote:Individual recently just purchased an L400, here's the follow-up conversation after inspecting the vehicle...
Customer to dealer: "It appears that my coolant expansion bottle is brittle and needs replacement?"
Dealer to customer: "I can't afford to replace everything on the vehicle or I won't be in business"
Customer to dealer: "So its not worth spending $100 for a new bottle versus a few thousand for a seized engine plus a tow charge if the bottle blows?"
Dealer to customer: "Don't worry about it, its under warranty."

well I have to admit that conversation piece scares me a bit, but prevention is key to long vehicle life. My current ride is a testament to that as Mr. Bishi can vouch for as well. I have some time before 'it' arrives so this issue of service can be addressed before that with Delica.ca input.

Paid the deposit this afternoon and its supposedly on the boat and enroute. Should be picking it up in person by early February.

There's an interesting idea jfarsang.
I might be able to do something in the G.V.A. the day of the pickup before I head home to Calgary.

when the dates confirmed I'll let the other JDM guys know and we'll make it a mini meet of sorts. could assist each other out at the port if needed.
