I found two of those 700L holding tank with drain pipes at the bottom and filler openings at the top, makes it way easier to clean all the water or crude that might accumulate over the months. Also makes it very easy to fill up cubbies for road trips...
I basically use one as a holding tank where I fill it up and let it rest for a month or so. Then I use my pump to transfer the oil from the top of that tank into the cold up flow tanks (into 60L smaller one sitting on top of the 200L one). It takes about 24hrs to filter it's way into another 60L tank via gravity. Ideally it would transfer right away into the next 700L tank but gravity doesn't work uphill so it goes in that smaller and lower one first (on the way there it goes through a 30u filter typically used in house water filtration system.
On the picture you can see I used a sock filter before the cold up flow but I got rid of it this winter as they plug faster and with it was getting redundant and not really useful as I drain the bottom 10L of my 200L tank every once in a while via another valve I mounted at the bottom of the plastic drum...
Next I pump the oil from that lower 60L plastic tank into the "ready to use" 700L tank but again, before making it into that large drum it goes through a 10u hydraulic filter.
Now I can either use the drain valve to fill up cubbies or my fuel nozzle to fill up the truck directly.
Best part with this system is that I don't have to move anything, I just open and close valves to control where the oil goes. This avoid numerous spills! (although I still managed some pretty decent ones!

Now that winter has come I wrap a battery blanket around my 10u filter to help with filtration. I'm also about to experiment with pipe heater (house stuff to avoid your water pipes from freezing) instead of the battery blanket.
But to make it work best I'm looking for a 70L steel drum to replace my plastic one. I use a magnet oil pan heater that I mount under the drum to heat up the oil just a bit so that it moves more easily... Anyone knows where I can find one of those by any chance?
Cheers,
Mr. D
