Oil drip - catch tray or drip tray

Ok, so my van has been dripping oil since the very first day I got it... At times a bit more, after various new gaskets and seals being installed, a bit less... But it continues to leave little black marks on every pavement it visits... I find it very annoying and - if my memory serves me right - I have recently read a post where somebody wrote something about a drip tray or oil drip catch pan or something like that being used...
Does anybody have any experience with such a thing? Does anybody use one, does it work, wouold it be safe to use one, if yes, does one have to manufacture it by themselves or is some type of generic or custom made part available..? Would it be recommended to line such a tray with some carpet or absorbent material?
Any information, suggestion or help would be hugely appreciated...
Cheers,
Chris
