Oil Catch Can

My van came with a Japanese oil catch can (as identified by Steven @risingsun earlier this year on another thread)

I think most catch cans have a drain plug but this one doesn't. Would unhooking the PVC and intake hoses and hanging it over an oil pan be sufficient? Anything else I should be aware of?

Let me know your thoughts. If you want I can remove and get some more detailed pictures.

Detach and drain will work. Odds are it will be a long time before you need to drain again.

Note, that plastic pipe on the left side, that is the oil level indicator. So, if you see it full, empty it. Mind you, if you see it indicating totally full, you might want to tilt it before you unhook it, as it will pour out old oil everywhere!

It would be neat to see more photos of it on the forum. :D

I finally got around to draining my catch can:

As you can see it was pretty full. I bet there was Japanese oil in there!

Should I expect to see any difference in performance, or should I just consider this preventive maintenance?

Preventative maintance. No performance boost. :)
