I dripped some oil on my alternator when i was taking out the filter. (I know, put a rag over it next time)!!
There is oil all over my engine. How best to clean it off? Questions 1.

Question 2. Have I done any damage to my alternator? I just came back from five days in the bush with over night temps getting down to -17. Hard to start, but once started it ran great. (I should have put in 5w in instead of 15w. Next time). Should I be concerned?

-17 will not usually be easy to start at. It's common to have oil from the turbo or valve cover gasket drip onto the alternator, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Keep an eye out for flickering dash lights.

Simple Green is great for cleaning out the engine bay. Just spray it and hose off.

Question 1
- Use brake cleaner, kind of materials/super cleaner with garden hose after. Dry it for a while.
Question 2
- No worry about damage on alternator.
It is very common for oil leaks going down to alternator, etc.
As long as you do not pour brake fluids into alternator, it is safe. ( no chance in case of L300 )
