I have a 2.8L Pajero Exceed A/T LWB and I was noticing there is an A/T switch on the center console behind the shifter. I don't know if this means All Terrain or Automatic Transmission (mode) but in the Japanese owners manual I have it shows a picture of the switch in 'HOLD" and a guy driving in snow. Then a guy driving in the city and it is off and then a guy driving through the mountains on a highway and it is in "PWR" (see photos).
I don't read Japanese so I am assuming that the "HOLD" is to hold the gear you are in so you don't rev to high and spin out in slippery conditions and "PWR" is for changing the gear ratio for highway driving. I do notice a higher RPM on hills when it is in "PWR". I am just curious if anyone know the actual function of these so I know how to properly apply them as my driving situation changes.

Thanks peeps

It's not about changing the gear ratio, it's about changing the shift points.

PWR will down-shift sooner and hold the gear longer before shifting up. It works best for towing, although I've found that it 'hunts' more than I'm comfortable with. Regardless, using it is harder on fuel economy.

And now that I've read the other post, I understand what HOLD does - makes sense. Might try it in the city, see if my fuel economy increases any.
