Oil Leak - help please!

Hi,

So I came out of work today to two small puddles of what seems to be oil just under the centre (not under the motor) of my van. A drop falls every few seconds or so. Not sure what set it off. It is very hot in Victoria today. I took the van in for a Deli-tune and oil change in Van with Butch last weekend.

I put a tub underneath to collect the fluid and it is heterogenous - there is some dark black stuff but also some yellowy stuff. I'm new to diesel and not nearly as mechanical as the Deli-geniuses on this forum so I'm not sure what's going on.

Any ideas as to what this is, what might have caused it, and what I should do? Is this a problem or normal? Any feedback is appreciated. I looked on other threads but no direct answer. Thanks,

Luis

Diesel leak on injectors...

Just went out and took a better look. The liquid is yellowish and smells kinda like diesel, so I assume that's what it is. I looked at the engine and there are small pools of the same liquid forming around the bases of all 4 injectors (or what I think are the injectors).

So... perhaps the injectors didn't get torqued tightly enough after my Deli-tune at CVI (which included injector cleanings)?

Help!

Fuel pump gasket... not sure. Like I said, I've only recently started my Deli Jedi training. Where is it and what does it look like? And what does it have to do with my injectors (where I do see diesel leaking out)?

Hey,
Is it dry above the injectors?
If it is I would think its
Either the fuel line to injector connections or
The return rail isn't secured to the injectors
Sufficiently.
If you want to tighten yourself use two wrenches for
each sequence.
For the return line you want to keep the nut with the line
on it static and tighten the nut above it.
DO NOT TRY AND TURN THE NUT WITH THE RETURN LINE
GOING THROUGH IT.
For the injector top connection you want to hold the very
Bottom of the injector to keep it from moving,
While you snug up the top nut with the line going into
The injector.
If any of that is beyond your tools or confidence it would be a very quick job at CC autos.

Good Luck :-D

clean the area at the injectors with a paper towel to soak up whatever is wet there. when it is bone dry, start and run the engine while looking at the injectors to see if any diesel leaks appear

my advice would be to call Butch and have him walk you through identifying the fluid and source

Geebus...

Yeah, I think it is dry above the injectors.

Thanks, I'll try what you guys say... but either way I'll give Butch a ring on Monday when he opens.

I'm wondering what caused it... like I said the injectors were cleaned at CVI so maybe that did it. The only other thing I can think of is that I put in an ounce of Racor additive/conditioner for the first time with my last tank of diesel. Can't imagine why that would do anything but thought I'd mention it.

If anyone else has a different perspective let me know.

If it is fuel leaking from the injectors, you should be able to smell it. I had my l400 delituned last year at CVI and one injector leaked too. Butch fixed it ( after 2 attempts ) but every time he used new washers. So the best for you is like Jesse said ,call Butch and let him walk through that with you.

Cheers,
DC

I've got all 4 injectors leaking, so I hope not...

I'm in Victoria so CC autos is 2 hours away and CVI is 4... A phone walk through with Butch might be the best thing. I'll try your suggestions tomorrow by daylight and see what happens. Kind of annoying!

Looks like I fixed it. Got in there last night with a flashlight and tightened everything up... in particular some loose nuts (one on each injector) just under the little pipes going into each injector. Cleaned up the diesel and took the deli for a long spin, when I got back there was no more drip. Hopefully this will be the end of it! Thanks for your ideas and suggestions guys!
