I'd really like to know if anyone has figured a good way to help delicas climb hills. It's pretty much my only complaint with the vechicle... slowing to 50 or 60 on the steep inclines.. I've heard rumors of propane injection, whaddabout nitrous? majikal fuel additives?

Like Mararmeisto says: Gear down. She's a Delica, not a Ferrari. She drives like a truck, not a spyder.

measured and it ain't lookin' pretty.

Would have to cut, re-brace, weld the bulkhead/floor/frame and sacrifice some interior room.

Both the engine and transmission are a lot taller - longer than the 4D56T/trans.

With that said, anything is possible. All relative to the size of your wallet.

Some people here have over $20k into a relatively stock L300. You can easily get a $6k nice shape L300, even less if the engine is shot, and spend $14k to have a professional shop transplant an engine of your choice and while they are at it a SAS.

If I had an L300 with a blown engine, instead of forking out $3-4k for another underpowered 4D56T with a soft head that likes to crack under pressure, I would just buy a 1/2 cut from Japan and drop it in.

Same engine but a lot better and newer.

powered by a 2.5 liter 4 in-line DOHC 16 valve with Variable Geometry Turbocharger and Intercooler 4D56 diesel engine. Thanks to the VGT technology, the Montero Sport’s Common Rail Diesel engine now pumps out 176 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. The Variable Geometry technology reduces turbo lag time and increases overall efficiency across the entire RPM range. Aside from being powerful, durable and dependable, this engine has been noted to be, responsive and economical.
the new 2.5 liter 4D56 Mitsubishi Direct Injection Diesel with Hyper Common Rail DOHC 16-valve Turbo Intercooled engine. Maximum power output from this 2.5 liter engine is at 136PS @ 3,500 rpm and maximum torque is 314 N-m @ 2,000 rpm. The adoption of the DI-D Common Rail system enables the 4x2 Strada to deliver high output, flatter torque curve, low fuel consumption, clean emissions, and quiet operation. This new Direct Injection Diesel Common Rail engine is already Euro-2 compliant and is properly matched with the current diesel fuel in the Philippines.
4D56T Intercooled Turbo 3rd Generation DI-D with variable geometry turbo

Power - 131 kW (178 PS) at 4,000 rpm (our L300 engine (67 kW) at 4,200 rpm)
Torque - 350 N·m (258 lb·ft) at 1,800 rpm
Engine type - Inline 4-cylinder
Fuel system - 2nd Generation Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDi)
Compression ratio - 16.5:1[13]

That would make an L300 not only fly with more than twice the power output but be more fuel efficient and fun to drive at little expense for modification. You would just need the engine, accessories, ECU, computer, harness and bell housing.

wow, that sounds good. way better than the 26.5hp on the stock delicas!

you realty think that could be done for less than 3-4000$? seems everyone would be getting it done if that was the case. a bit more power and better fuel efficiency would make these awesome old vans so much better.

No. 3-4k would be the cost of the engine/etc. You'd still need a shop to drop it in or DIY. I prefer the DIY method.

Wow. That would be awesome! Has anyone ever done this swap? I know SuperExceeded is popping a different engine in, but has anyone ever put an engine like this or another in a stock(ish) L300?
