So the Pajero I wanted to by disintegrated on itself.....

I was all excited about getting my new Pajero complete with a new engine installed. On my way to pick it up, I got a call from the mechanic who was fixing it up telling me that the shock mount had fallen off the truck during a test drive and the vehicle was now junk.
Although disappointed I felt a bit as though i had dodged a bullet. I am now in the market for a new vehicle and I am set on a diesel 4X4.
My question to you all is, What vehicle should I get and how much of a problem is rust on these imports?
Any thoughts or stories would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thats a pretty wide open question...diesel and 4x4. Considering this is a Delica website my money is on people recommending you buy a Delica.
Van: Delica, Hiace, Homy, Granvia, Townace, Bongo Friendy
SUV: Pajero, Surf, Patrol, Landcruiser 70/80, Prado, Bighorn, MU
Truck: Hilux, Strada, Liteace, Townace, Hiace, Toyoace, Dyna, Elf, Canter, Bongo Brawny
What are some vehicles that turn your crank? What is your budget? Easier to start with what catches your eye and then whittle down.
The low to zero amount of rust on many Japan imports is one of their major selling points. Buy from a credible importer/dealer or exporter and rust should not be a problem.

Thanks for the feedback.
I am leaning towards a delica as it fits my needs for space and my desire to turn it into a veggie mobile. How long to the L300 engines run for, if they are well maintained?
Also does anyone have any thoughts on the isuzu bighorn? How is the drive train on that vehicle?

How many Troopers and Rodeos do you see still on the road over here? Same/similar vehicle.

A lot of good choices as these guys have mentioned. Can't go wrong with a Delica, 3.0L Surf, Bighorn, etc. Don't rule out a Bongo Friendee though... I have become obsessed with them lately

Just a note on the trooper/rodeo.
Reason you don't see them much here is because of their V6 petrol motor.
There was a design flaw allowing too much oil to be blown out the exhaust
causing huge drops in oil and then... boom. Motor gone. That's what happened
to mine, warranty to replace motor done. Sold it 30k in while working good.
Next owner didn't pay attention and it was toast in 5k more.
I would buy one with a Diesel in a heartbeat.. 3.1 liter turbo diesel.. bet that
has some punch.
Anyway, it's the motor issue. With a diesel in there.. that point is moot.
