would anybody know how to clear Canada Food & inspection Agency
inspection when importing by container ,also any other hidden charges
when using a container port :?:

i broke down and decided to ship by container just could not wait anymore,it was bit compulsive did not do my homework. i cannot believe i did it, feels the same as driving without any head lights in the dark. Would prefer to handle the process myself.
Any input welcome cordom : :D  :?:

Try calling Courtney agencies in Vancouver. They handle a good deal of this type of shipping

I highly recommend Courtney agencies, Paul and Al seem the great guys and are very helpful. There web site even has copy's of custom forms, http://www.courtney.bc.ca, off course you'll have to change vender info. Dean landed his own Landcr***r, and I know he called Paul Courtney for advise, including the custom clearances.

Pick another Delica up Monday!

if you dont mind my asking, what was the container cost? did your exporter put it in a container with another car? Im bringing in 2 deli's but roro seems like a heck of a wait. :P

Hi Kelly,

Can't stand the wait.

The best thing to do is ask for a quote, from you Japanese importer, for container shipping for your two vans. Two Deli's fit in one 20m container and price varies as to how heavy they consider your Delica. Handling charges, from say Courtney Agencies, are less per vehicle if you have more then one in a container. My last shipment was paid for Oct 30, and was in my driveway the first week of December.

hey, thanks Kev! yeah, I was thinking about bringing in some additional things in the container to help with the costs. Courtney agencies definitely seem like the go to guys though. I will contact them shortly

Careful how many insurable vehicles, including scooters, you bring in a container! Unless you have dealers license I think you can only bring 5 vehicles a year.

How about bringing in a van loads of spare parts, then sell'em to people on board here!

that was the idea :D

found a bevy of skyline and silvia parts(my JDM roots :P) and am hunting deli parts too, found some interesting things on auctions.yahoo.japan.

If the container is going to happen, I will try to start a thread with parts that people need and cannot get or find at a reasonable price and would try and get them.. but this is all up in the air. so Ill let you know. if not...I may be patient enough fo RORO.

hi chewy

i used samurai garage i bought 2 vechicals and was quoted a roll
on roll of price for each, one i purchased in sept and it did not look
like it would arrive until early next year, there was no extra charge
for putting both vechicals in a 40ft container in japan.it cost about
an extra $300 each to transport and upack the containers in
vancouver.it took seven days after buying second vechical to
ship, and another 10 days at sea.

I also container shipped with samurai garage, but in the end it cost over $900 extra. Not outrageous, but more than the $300 we were quoted.

I'm now waiting for my second container, not cheap but likely worth the added expense.

Can't say enough good things about courtney agencies and prime link.

There seems to be a real polarity over self importing vs buying locally.
I've been fortunate to have found a reliable Japan based broker. Judging from what's been posted on this site, others have found an equally reliable local retailer/service provider at ccautos.

It's unfortunate that there are dodgey oprators both here and overseas.
This is probably why some believe it is difficult to find an honest broker or mechanic.

A word of advice, I went through J-Cars, and simply put, they gouge on container shipping, and I ended up going RORO with horror stories of close friends paying upwards of 10K for a container due to inflated prices from j-cars and the additional costs of containers waiting to be unstuffed.

as a general rule, container shipping is faster, but more expensive, roro is cheaper, but you can wait months for a spot...
