Hyundai Starex!

Hey folks,

So looking over for some solution with my RHD problem back east, I came across the Hyundai Starex and realized it was a LHD. Question is: Why are we getting L400 over factory LHD Starex?

The Starex was produced from 1997 = we can import them next year into Canada

The Starex has a 4G64 option! I wonder if the head is 8-valve or 16-valve? If it is 16 valve, it could be a way to get the 16V head with the correct distributor position, etc. for the L300, yes?

Here is a link from the Hyundai site (notice the cylinder head of the 2.4):

As the owner of an L300 I can only say that van is boooaring looking! At least the L400 has more interest factor than that. Lets face
it we all like the cool factor of our unique rides and that Hyundai is about as cool as a ford windstar.

I took this picture of a Starex in Costa Rica. It's obviously an L400 derivative. This one appeared to be Royal Exceed spec, since it had leather upholstery.

For those who haven't figured it out yet, Hyundai, is Mitsubishi Korea. The Starex is their take on the Delica.

The first gen Starex and 4th gen Delica are obviously based off an identical design with slight structural modifications do give it a different appearance. The rear slider seems shorter on the Starex version and the wheel wells are tighter, probably suggesting the Hyundai doesn't support a 4x4 version.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hyund ... 070928.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:P5270 ... _(RLH).JPG

The next gen of each also is similar, with the two major structural changes noted above also being carried over between the models.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2011_ ... 10-10).jpg

The D5 loses the Pajaro as its base though, and seems to have a unibody design instead of a full frame. The second gen starex will be similiar in that regard.

The above photos show a lower slung body, because they don't have to clear a frame, and reinforcement typical to unibody design. I don't think a D-5 or the second generation of Hyundai is in my future. I must load the vehicle up with 2000 pounds of food once a month for a dinner ministry. Not so comfortable overloading a unibody even occassionally and for a short distance.

So some of you probably aren't going to care for the D-5 as much as the L300 or the pending L400. The eventual death of my L400 might be the end of the line for me and Delicas.

I wish there was some importers who can offer these Hyundai Starex with LHD steering.
Starex are almost twin of SpaceGear but without the 4M40 engine and the V6.They have diesel and gasoline engine,2.4 gas,2.5 turbo-diesel and in some country with a 2.6 diesel n/a.
And they have 4WD but harder to find. They are mostly 2WD.
Perfect solution for Québeckistan!

No problem at all with Hyundai products,as good as any other kind and often better. In any case, a lot better than a ford...By the way,do you know what is the meaning of F O R D in french?Ferraille,Ordure,Rebut,Déchet...(scrap,trash,scum,waste...;) :-D

Surely that Amazing auto can have Starex,he had some Hyundai Galloper for sale(twin of Pajero)

I am very serious of importing Starex diesel from Korea, but a little reluctant to start business due to limited quantity and poor public auction system ( unlike Japan auction ) over there.

See how I can do in near future.

Sure that the market for Starex will be smaller than for Delica but if you have nice, clean well equipped and affordable units that should be
very profitable...I'd probably be one of the first buyers.
I've search many place to find LHD conversion kit for Delica,Starwagon or Spacegear,or a clean Delica originally built with LHD but nothing appears to be feasible...

And if shits happen with RHD,you will be ready to face the situation...
