Hello everyone, im new to the world of jdm, i just bought a 92 lwb after about a year of looking, i thought i found the rite one for me, it had a good 3 year paper trail of all work done, i bought it off a rcmp officer and it looked like it was well takin car of.....then i bought it and it was all that i had hoped for. 22mpg seats 7 looks cool and has one of the best 4x4 reps out there. well as you might of figgered out ofter 400km at about 105kmph a valve dropped :o , things got bad fast and i pulled over. had it pulled to a shop i know near home and pulled the head :-( .......its all kinds of bad. not gona evin try to fix it.
so my question is this. has anyone heard about the hundai built 4d56 motor? i found a drop in crate motor with all acc on it inc the fuel pump and starter alt so on for $3200.00 plus 195 to ship it to me. that seem fair? should i get a mitsu made 4d56? does it matter?
i ask because a mitsu 4d56 is rare new and about 5600.00 all dressed up
what do you think?

3200$ sounds about right, and Hyundai is one of the licensees of the Mitsu-stuff (have been for a while) so don't worry about the name. Sounds like the timing belt went just a liiiiittttttle to long - unfortunate, really. Never can really tell with those danged things.

I picked up an l300 with a blown motor, it needs a crank, and number one connecting rod. If the used crank I have here turns out to be no good, I will be going with the hyundia drop in, I have confidence in the workmanship as they didn't redesign the engine, they only reproduced it. This being said, I may have confidence, but I don't have any experience with the hyundia engines "yet", so mine is pure opinion, no facts.

It actually dropped a valve...Not a nice way to go out at 3000rpm under load. I can imagine the damage. Surprise it did not put a connecting rod through the block.

My understanding is there are some minor changes in the motor such as the pre-combustion chambers. If it is a complete motor with injector pump and turbo. You should be able to sell the turbo and injector pump ect... to get a few $$ back.

Wish you better luck.

Cheers

Hyundai has applied 4D56 engine to numerous models.
porter truck, grace, galloper, libero, starex.

When you buy a Hyundai 4D56 engine, you need to figure out what model the engine is used for.
If you get a different application, you may need more modification/money or have another problem.

Mitsubishi does not make complete engine anymore, but Hyundai Mobis still supplies them fortunately.

Before you buy a complete new engine, you need to know what problem your engine has.
Most likely, it needs only head work or some crankshaft/pulley,,,,.

We have all kinds of engine parts for 4D56, and all are from Hyundai original.

hyundai engine are almost same quality as mitsu engine, if you are getting all new pump injector, timing belts etc, better to go with a new one rather than fixining. initially you will spend a bit more but in the long run it will be beneficial considering you are keeping the pajero for a while.

That's shitty...sorry to hear about that.

If the IP is in good shape - relative to that paper trail - I'd be potentially interested in that...

Sorry to hear that! How many clicks on it now? Can you post pictures? I would ask for second independent opinion from trusted mechanic and leaning to fix it rather than spend 5600 for new engine...or you can add a bit and get new truck and sell all you can rip off your old one...

Good luck,

It has 1526??km on it, as far as a 2nd guy to look at it, theres no need. i saw for myself the block and head are toast, In the short time i drove it i fell in love with it. i was thinking of getting a 2nd one from calgary only $3000 but tranny is going on it, id use the motor from it, but still new is better and if the tranny is gone then how hard of a life has it had?
oh well the new hundai motor will de orderd on tuesday, and ill have the kind of truck i thought i was buying. as far as pics go i dont have any at all but ill see what i can do

Ok, So i just emailed the guy to order the new motor. im gona go with a new inj pump and injectors, just to save on labour cost. but everything else is in good shape on the old one. so ill use the old stuff (try to save some $) i was hoping to have this all done last weak but my cash flow was kinda low. but thats all takin care of now. So ill order it when i hear back from Maximum in Richmond. Oh anyone have any good or bad things to say about them?

yeh.. so i was gona order it today but now im kinda in a hard spot now so im gona sell it :-(
after talking it over with the shop they have me thinking its not worth it to put in a new motor, and all the conflicting info between the two motor suppliers (maximum and rizing sun) has really pissed me off. More rizing sun than anything. if they were trying to scare me away from the compitition they failed but scared me away all together..I have decided that i cant risk spending another 5-6 k and have it break on me. As this would not be cash on hand but a loan on a 19 year old suv. So anyone want to take it off my hands? make me a offer and ill see wat i can do. thanks

Have you talked to CVI as well? They have often rebuilt engines in different grades available too. Might be even worth to just give them a call and asked the same questions you had to Rising and MaxO.
