Thanks for posting Mr. D. Really like the wood roof of your old Westy. I'll probably end up doing something like that once I put the finishing touch on the interior.

Felix, one thing to keep in mind is that any exposed metal from the body will be a "cold bridge", which means it'll be a direct conduit for the cold from outside to inside, and may render your other roof insulation meaningless. If you aren't already, it could be worth running some insulation over the runners too, just to make sure, plus anything else that will be exposed.

Once the interior is done I'll cover up the remaining parts of the exposed metal. Otherwise you will get a lot of condensation.

Was the insulation/sound proofing for the roof mainly for noise or to keep heat in on chilly nights, or both?
Have you driven much lately? Have you noticed a big decrease in road/outside noise?

Roof insulation is mainly against heat loss. Specially in preparation for the upcoming Diesel heater.
So far I'm pleased about the reduction of road noise, but honestly it's still hard to judge as the van is completely empty as well as all the interior panels are off. The biggest improvement so far in terms of noise is the dampening on all the doors.

What's the change in weight? Increase or reduction? I realise you've got the seats out, side panels off, etc, but you've added how much in sound-deadening and insulation.

Overall it's an increase compare to stock for sure as there is no insulation at all beside a layer of fleece behind the headliner. Sound dampener and Neoprene for the whole Delica is maybe around 15kg. Sound dampener is heavy (if it's good stuff) but Neoprene weighs next to nothing.
Custom interior panels go back again later.

Are you going to add a roof vent?

Not as this stage. We thought about it, but wanted to wait till we experience the new insulation in hot climate. The heat didn't bother us much before, so I expect we don't have to install a roof vent.

I am in the process of converting 'The Black Van' into a campervan and I have fitted a 'mushroom' vent to the roof. My reason for fitting it was not for the hot weather but hopefully it will keep the condensation down. I am concerned about the amount of condensation that is produced just from sleeping in it when the outside temperature is low, so when we start cooking in it aswell there will be more water vapour/steam to condense on the inside panels and windows. I'm hoping that the small roof vent will help it escape to the outside.
