Sure could use some a/c.

Re: Re-charge A/C
I have a question for those that have actually done this. Did you all have a low pressure port like was shown in afteroil's post? Or did you have the setup like mine. Two hoses one small (I think this is the high pressure) and one larger (low pressure...I think), both having a schrader type valve that accepts the adpater from the RedTek kit (see previous post on page 4 for pictures).
I looked at it again today and found that one of the 15A fuses were blown, which I changed. I believe that it is feeding the front left fan that i found a few weeks ago to be seized so I am not expecting much change. The main fan was running with and with out the blown fuse. I also looked again for the low pressure port that afteroil posted and it is just not there on mine.
Any thoughts (about this
) would be appreciated.
Thanks!

My valves are the same as yours (91 van?). There are a fuse and relay for each condenser fan on mine as well. I had to fix one relay ground to get it working. Thanks Andy! Is my assumption of the small one is high pressure and the larger one is low pressure correct?

Yes thats normally the case. Use the sight glass when filling it. Its under a rubber plug under the passenger side floor mat. WhenDelicaMark wrote:Thanks Andy! Is my assumption of the small one is high pressure and the larger one is low pressure correct?

Re: Re-charge A/C
I hooked up the gauge and saw the correct pressure...at least it was within the green area of the gauge. This seems to tell me that I have coolant in there and mixing it was the RedTek stuff doesn't seem like a good idea. The RedTek site also says to remove the exisiting coolant first. From a lot of the posts it seems that people have zero coolant left so it is not a big deal.
I think I am done with the A/C. Besides it is getting cooler again anyway!
Thanks for the help!

Re: Re-charge A/C
I bought a Redtek recharge kit from Canadian Tire.
Seems my pressure is ok so I'm not going to use it although my air conditioning could be cooler in my opinion.
One thing I did notice is the Redtek gauge. At the maximum pressure on the gauge I noticed a word.
Either this means something (other than that only an idiot would put this much in to get to this pressure) or I think Redtek is somehow able to get around the politically correct crowd

Re: Re-charge A/C
Three questions:
1) I visited http://www.REDTEK.com to watch the Installation Video and one thing they mention is to completely empty the old coolant from the system (by someone qualified) before recharging. Has anyone done this and how?
2)The video mentions the need to know how much refrigerant your vehicles AC system requires. Does anyone know how much the Delica requires?
3)Where the heck are the "Low pressure service port" and the "High pressure service port"? I have a 1990 Deli and I see one service port on the top side of the compressor, in the same position as "after oil" shows in his pictures on page 3 of this thread. However, I'm not sure if this is the high or low port. I think someone mentioned a port somewhere else but I can't find.

Ok, I think I answered my own question #3 above about where ports are. I went back and looked closer at "after oils" comments about it and sure enough, they were where he said. Here's a couple of photos that may help...

Re: Re-charge A/C
#1 This can be done by any shop set up for AC work. A vacuum pump is needed and storage for the old refridgerant.jphillips wrote:Three questions:

#2 I have not been able to find anything on the L300 but the L400 chart calls for 650 grams for a single zone or "front only"
system and 950 grams for a dual zone like I think most Delicas have. That should be close to what we have. I put a full one
kilo can in mine and its probably too full right now. Watch the sight glass under the passenger footwell. When the bubbles
stop you should be close to ok.
#3 Nice picture on the service ports, very descriptive. Good luck.

Re: Re-charge A/C
g_man1972 I also think that it must have been too hot for the AC to work right. I had just gotten mine fixed for a final bill of 800 bucks (500 for retrofit and 300 for recharge again and replacing of some low pressure valve.) and it didn't seem to be working. I'm glad I checked in this forum because my fuse for the front fan was blown as well so I replaced it and it worked slightly better but never all that well especially at stop lights. It doesn't seem to cycle that much after the fan was fixed though. I still notice these pauses even when going at a good clip where the system shuts down for a few seconds and blows fairly warm air for a bit.
As well, I can't cool the whole van. When I turn on the back zone I can't keep the front cool anymore. I'm sure that this must have worked at some time. I think I'm going to take it back to the shop again even though I am fed up with paying this much money.

Re: Re-charge A/C
Without more info it's hard to be certain, but this could be normal. There is a cutout switch that disengages the A/C when your foot is to the floor, it's to give you more power when you most need it, once you ease off the pedal again the A/C cuts back in.. I still notice these pauses even when going at a good clip where the system shuts down for a few seconds and blows fairly warm air for a bit.

Re: Re-charge A/C
Using the good advise so far from people like Andy (modsquad), I'm getting through the trouble shooting of my AC. I have NOT yet recharged the AC with the RedTek. I figured best to do some troubleshooting to figure the problem first - which proved a good decision, now need a bit more help on what I discovered...
I found a blown inline 15amp fuse behind the glove-box, in my case the far right one of the three (see here for andys pics). Thank you. Now both cooling fans are blowing (one in front of engine fan & one under to passenger foot well). However, no improvement in the AC.
I connected the pressure gauge to the low pressure port and this is what I see for pressure (see pic below) - seems high. Any thoughts on what why? At least I know that the system is holding pressure (at 115psi). I think someone said in this thread that over pressure may cause issues?
so, fans turning, lines have no leaks, have high pressure - what next in the troubleshooting?
Oh - Any chance of someone posting a picture of where the filling "site glass" is? I think Andy said it was under the carpet on the passenger foot well. I looked everywhere along the line (in and out of van) and can't see it.
Now the picture of existing pressure in system - too high?...

Re: Re-charge A/C
Sorry, don't have a photo, but I can describe it.jphillips wrote:Oh - Any chance of someone posting a picture of where the filling "site glass" is? I think Andy said it was under the carpet on the passenger foot well. I looked everywhere along the line (in and out of van) and can't see it.
It really is under the carpet in the middle of the passenger footwell
1) Raise hood.
2) unscrew the plastic trim along the door sill (4 screws) that holds the carpet down. Goes from seat height down the the front of the foot well.
3) unsnap the two 1" round grey plastic snaps that are at the rear edge of the carpet
4) move carpet forward and towards driver's side
5) see rubber grommet in centre of floor
6) remove grommet
7) find sight glass under hole
The owner's manual (or Russek, can't remember, and it is too hot here to walk to the driveway) has drawing of it. I know I've found instructions with photos in the past, but can't seem to find them right now.
