Re: Whipsaw 4x4 wknd overnight - wknd of Sept 10-12
The trip was amazing and group was fantastic.
Lots to say but have to head out soon so I'll keep it short for now.
For the rest of the delica-herd, I have to say that I was extremely impressed with the L400's ability on the whipsaw trail.
We had two in our group. Tony was driving a stock SWB with allseason/mild AT tires and Antoine was driving a stock LWB with BFG AT's. Tony was new to the 'offroad' driving scene. 'Was' being the key word. After the first day, he progressed very fast and on the last leg, he drove in places that 90% of Delica owners would never go. Both did amazingly well. What surprised me the most was Antoine's driving and the LWB. There were many tight areas and that long L400 just powered through them all.
Rich had a clean (had being the key work - sucks bro) L300 with good grippy Duratrac tires and he pushed and pushed that L300 hard. Had to admire his dedication to forge ahead.
Felix. Well, what can you say. He's German. He has a nicely modified L300 and best of all, he knows exactly what to do with it offroad. He showed everyone what a good experienced offroad driver can do.
David and myself might as well have been watching TV while driving on the whipsaw. Those Nissan Safari's (Patrols) felt like big cadillac couches. They just crawled all over everything at a slow walking speed. Point and go. The Safari's are very capable machines and they are virtually unstoppable.
More to come.

Not much to add, I'm sure you all get the essence of this trip... all of you who didn't make it missed BIG time! Hey Jesse, it's not only Tony that improved his driving skill, you seem to forget Diane (sorry if misspelled...) and I have video to prove it!
So a few videos, still working on the pictures.
Here's Diane going down a rocky and steep drop. Looks easy on the video but check the ass coming up as she comes down (the L400's ass that is...)
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3nDIiVDkf8Y&fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3nDIiVDkf8Y&fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Here's Felix coming down with nerves of steel. Let's guess, how fricking high do you think his rear wheel came off the ground?
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yKZyl-qPZGM&fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yKZyl-qPZGM&fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Also a little bit of climbing... "The Ledge"

Re: Whipsaw 4x4 wknd overnight - wknd of Sept 10-12
Met some of you guys and gals on the trail this past weekend. I was the one driving the "Big" Suburban.
I wanted to come visit you all Sat. night at camp but got a bit busy tending to my wife's migraine and my son with a bad head cold.
I was talking to Paul in North Van via VHF a few weeks ago and knew you guys were heading up there.
Just wanted to say JOB WELL DONE! and hope to see you all out on the trails again.
Going to go back now and check your pics and vids.
I think I saw one of somebody's rigs in the mud were it shouldn't have been, not happy to see people going off trail into the meadows.

Re: Whipsaw 4x4 wknd overnight - wknd of Sept 10-12
Hands down this was one of the best 4x4 camping trips I've had for a long time. What a fantastic trail with great bunch of people. The Delicas performed really well and even better with the support of the guys with the sumo tanks.
Thank you guys for the entertaining time!
And to be fair even our support team struggled

Before the way in, Delicat approached the main ditch and jfarsang pointed him to the right side. Delicat ASSUMED that Jesse intended to mean that he had done that side earlier.
You saw what happened in the video when Delicat attempted to cross that way.
Immediately after being dragged out, Delicat asks jfarsang "did you go that way?" to which he responds impishly, "nope."

Re: Whipsaw 4x4 wknd overnight - wknd of Sept 10-12
Time to be a little more forward here!
Off trail driving is extremely frowned upon and is also punishable by law.
Posting pics and videos of you guys off the main trail is only going to raise a lot of negative attention as it already may have with some of us.
As members of the 4WDABC we are always on the look out for people disrespecting the fragile Eco-system of our back country. Links to you trip have been posted on many other forums now and the comments I'm reading are not very positive. True the damage has already been done by previous trucks but the meadows, streams and bogs can not start repairing themselves unless people stop driving through them.
I'm trusting that you guys will take this as a warning before I go off with both barrels.

Re: Whipsaw 4x4 wknd overnight - wknd of Sept 10-12
Just so people are aware I've been in contact with Jordy via email and PM on this matter. I've also met him during our run, very nice fellow.
I fully respect his point of view. During our run we've seen many portion of the trail that were obviously abused. But in our defense, the trail often offers more than one option and it's not always obvious if they are part of the trail system or just a "no go"...
We also contributed over 1hr of trail maintenance for a section that had grooves so deep that it forced truck to run wider, hence creating erosion. We shoveled and moved rocks to fill those grooves and make it more practical.
I'll continue to communicate with Jordy to sort this out as if it needs to be addressed further it will be but if it simply looks worse than what it is I don't intend to spread an undue bad reputation for Delica.ca
Cheers,
David

I reached out to the trail maintainers before going in and asked for advice/comments and got no feedback.
If you had some input to give us on appropriate trail use, you should have given it on the trail. We would have been quite open to instruction as we're a bunch of noobs.
You can come on the forum and make threats or you can take a positive and constructive tack and point out what should be considered in-bounds. Guess which approach is going to be more productive...
On threat of legal action, I'm pulling my photos down.

Re: Whipsaw 4x4 wknd overnight - wknd of Sept 10-12
Easy Rich,
Although the 2 barrels is more of a picture he still came 1st with a friendly warning and I respect his point of view. He was telling me that the week before another club came trashing the place so I can hear his frustration.
As for warning us on the trail, no. He's simply referring to our pictures and didn't see us driving so couldn't give us a heads up at the time. And again, I still believe that if he had been by our side he wouldn't have been concerned as we did stick to the trail or what appeared to be the trail.
Good on you Rich to try contacting them before we went but unless you tried to get in touch directly with this guy than you can't complain of him specifically...
Probably a storm in a glass of water so time to let it cool down, most likely a non-issue than anything else.
David

What a great weekend! It was crazy cool. Got to learn how to drive Mr. Pistachio! I'm so amazed by the capabilities of this monster and a really great bunch of people! Hopefully there will be more trip like that. Maybe less intense for some and more crazy one. Some of you were talking about winter camping, that would be a very fun trip. I'm already seaking to it!

Which trail part of the trail was not the trail? If this section of trail is so well travelled, maybe markers/signage should be posted so people know.240 Jordy wrote:Time to be a little more forward here!
