Re: North American Adventure
Thanks, I was planning to use pull-overs but if I can find free campsites that would be great!
I'm also looking at getting a spot GPS from MEC in case of emergencies and also so I can have it track the route I'm travelling in realtime. Thoughts?

Spots are great, you can actually set up a website that we can all follow your progress. So long as you remember to push the button!!!

Re: North American Adventure
Is this for tracking or for navigation? I already have a nice Garmin GPS for navigation purposes.thedjjack wrote:good for others not so good for you...Super Exceeded wrote:nxski wrote:Thanks, I was planning to use pull-overs but if I can find free campsites that would be great!

Re: North American Adventure
I have a friend doing a similar trip which she wants to record. She's only giving out tracking information to close friends and family in case of an emergency and the spot me gps can send out an SOS or call an emergency contact if needed. I curious if anyone has used them before, seems like a good idea if one gets stuck with no cell service and no one around. It's $60 for the unit and $100 for a years subscription which covers up to $50,000,000, or something outrageous like that in case search and rescue is needed.thedjjack wrote:for navigation....personally when I am traveling I do not want anyone to know where I am

Re: North American Adventure
I would look at the fine print on that insurance....they cannot be covering JoePublic who gets a flat way off somewhere and pushes the emergency button and the SAR responds with everything?
People at my work use them, I know the early ones had no indication if you message got received which is an issue for bush workers might be better on the new version...
But for me the adventure usually begins at the point you would push the button. Last time I was a Joshua Tree we had 5 hours of SAR helicopters searching for two lost hikers? Huge ridge-line with a large town with lights on at night. So to me unless they were hurt they were not prepared. Field days for me I pack assuming I will be spending the night (longer if it is Helicopter access)..

You get in a lot of trouble if you push the SOS button without needing to.thedjjack wrote:I would look at the fine print on that insurance....they cannot be covering JoePublic who gets a flat way off somewhere and pushes the emergency button and the SAR responds with everything?

If you have a flat and don't have a spare it will contact your emergency contact who will then call a tow truck etc which will come and help you. In my case I can get them to call a BCAA approved company and use my BCAA card to cover that.
I will definitely make sure I am fully prepared although it would be nice to have something to call for help with if needed since I will have a cellphone but may not have service.

Re: North American Adventure
So we've been doing a lot of driving so far but have seen some neat sites. I can't wait until we get down to Arizona and can start relaxing some more. Here are some pictures of the trip so far (I've only posted pictures of the Delica since this is a Delica site and is quite public)
