I got a fuel can in the back, and I'm going for the record! 425km, needle still not touching the 'E'. Come on, baby!

I'd like to test the tank capacity as well. Most I've put in is 62l. I've never had the light come on yet. Does it come on like the oil light when you first turn on the Key? If I have 75l it would be nice to confidently use @ least 65l or know you could use more if between stations. I hate carrying extra fuel.

Light finally came on at 555km (any numerologists out there?), but I suspect there was plenty of room to go because the light was wavering from time-to-time. 62 litres filled it. Now, when on the highway I tend to hover around 100km/h so I imagine I'd go further if I dropped it down to 80 or 90 instead. Course now with the second vehicle for commuting, Moon Machine's going to get less back-and-forth and more there-and-back-again, if you know what I mean.

What size tires are you running? On the original 215's I used to get about 625ish km a tank at 80 km/h ... on my 31/1050's I get about 425ish km driving about 120km/h average. When I had the 31's on the diesel i used to get about 425km when driving around 100km/h average. So I think my mileage went up with the gas.

Hi Folks;

In case anyone is interested, I have been tracking my fuel economy since I got my L400.

It's a LWB Crystal automatic diesel and I have filled it up 5 times since "new". So from stats for 4 fills, I average 13.13L/100km. The range is from 11.9 to 13.99. I think the last one was an anomaly and I spilled a bit while filling. The gas pump said 62.67 litres at 448 km driven and the fuel light was on solid for about 40km.
The previous fill was after a weekend of off-roading up Chance Creek forest service road north of Sqeemish where I got 13.87 with a friend and a load of camping stuff.

Next time the fuel light goes on I will try to fill immediately to determine "reserve", but it sure goes on early...

Was this BS, or what? :o
I'm not one to dis a person, so i will keep the seller anonymous for the time being.

If it's got street tires on, not all-terrains, and if you keep it under 85km/h. That second one is VERY important because of the diesel engine and the aerodynamics (which this vehicle has very little of). Other than that, he's telling you porky pies!

At least, that's how I see it.

I've been wondering about this, too. Is it supposed to come on (the fuel light)? Mine doesn't.
...Then again, my oil light does not come on either, so it might just be broken, too.

I just checked the manual, and it doesn't say anything about the fuel light coming on when you first turn the key. This is in contrast to nearly all other lights, which are, according to the manual, supposed to come on when turning the key. What an amazing bit of knowledge to have ;-)

Fuel light does NOT come on when key is first turned on, a serious omission in my opinion. But I don't think I've ever seen a vehicle that had a light that did come on at start, so it is "normal".

The oil light should, though!

Do you know how I can check whether the fuel light works, at all? I thought it should come on when there's about 5 to 7 liters left (no idea where i got this number from). I tried to go VERY low, this week, but the light never came on and so I lost nerves and went tanking. I filled in over 46litres, and since my van supposedly has a 50 liter tank (manual 91 exceed), I must have been below 4 litres without the light coming on. A bit annoying, so I wonder how I can fix the light?

And does anybody know how to replace the bulb of the oil light? (maybe it's more than the bulb that's broken, but I'd rather try the cheapest option first... or keep checking the oil myself every once in a while)

I ran the tank dry at 550km yesterday, all city travel. Warning light comes on at about 450km.

just got back from up island, 500 km and no light yet, but we were in Duncan, so bought some fuel at the co-op, probably could have made another 100 anyways.

On the highway I don't even start to think about looking for gas stations until I'm over 500 km. When I drive up to the Cariboo I won't fuel up before 100 Mile or Lac La Hache.

Hum, I just filled up for the second time with mine (manual 91 exceed) and put 52L at 550Km, so I'm thinking the tank is more than 50, I think I read 55L somewhere...
I had filled up the first time when the gauge was on E (~46L) and the light hadn't come up yet so I wanted to see if it was working this time as well as know how far I could push it. It came on just around 500. I was getting a bit nervous at the end and was glad when I made it to gas station.
This was mostly city driving with about a trip to Shawnigan lake (~70km round trip) and 50km of highway towing the boat (trip to Sidney and back).
I'm pretty happy with the results so far.
