Re: Hermione's Makeover
Looks good.
You refer to it as a dual bypass unit but is this actually the amsoil dual bypass unit (2 bypass filters, factory fullflow remains in stock location)? To me it looks more like the amsoil dual remote unit (1 full flow, 1 bypass, factory full flow replaced by the adapter that feeds the dual remote unit).
I am assuming you are just using that FRAM full flow in place of a proper bypass filter for leak testing and will replace it with a proper bypass filter once you have one?...otherwise it really isn't doing any finer filtering than the factory single fullflow setup, just would take 2x as long to clog up.

Re: Hermione's Makeover
It is an actual dual bypass system, it completely replaces the stock filter. The fram is being used temporarily because I realized the night of the install that I had 2 full flow filters. I will buy the appropriate filter and install that later. My concern is trying to switch the filter with oil already in the system though. Is this possible or should I just drive 10,000km and then do the switch and replace oil?

Re: Hermione's Makeover
By your description it is what I thought...technically a dual remote (1 full flow, 1 bypass, no factory ie Amsoil BMK-23) not dual bypass (stock full flow, 2x Bypass ie BMK-22).

Looks good !
Foamshop for the foam?
I would recommend to install a bash guard encompassing the filter elements back there. Rocks and such fly up there and if you get one leak, there goes your engine oil ..

Re: Hermione's Makeover
Make sure your oil lines are very secure with no rubbing.
Also does your oil pressure light work (so you get notification if it leaks)? I would also add a oil pressure mechanical gauge as well as the idiot light if you have not already.
I think the by-pass would have looked better on my Delica...personal opinion I guess

Re: Hermione's Makeover
Ah, that makes sense about the bypass. I've seen a single bypass and know that's different still.
Yes, the foam is from the foam shop.
I'm debating attaching a bash guard, it is pretty out of the way but it's always nice to have extra protection.
I'm not sure if my oil pressure light works.
When I start it later tonight I will check for leaks (hopefully there are none!)

Re: Hermione's Makeover
Well, to be precise BMK-23 is a Dual Remote Oil Bypass Unit and BMK-22 is a DUAL-GARD Oil Bypass System, so technically both are dual and both are bypass.psilosin wrote:By your description it is what I thought...technically a dual remote (1 full flow, 1 bypass, no factory ie Amsoil BMK-23) not dual bypass (stock full flow, 2x Bypass ie BMK-22).

Re: Hermione's Makeover
when you go to start is the oil light on and go out after the motor starts? If not fix it because if you have a leak you will lose all the oil and only the sound of the crank welding up will let you know

Re: Hermione's Makeover
if your oil lines are that long (front to rear) and it's exposed underneath (where the muffler used to be) I can't stress enough to protect those filters bro.
And to be safe a real oil pressure gauge would be a good investment.

I'll also check the oil pressure light.

Re: Hermione's Makeover
I'm so bummed!
Turned on the vehicle and BAM, big oil leak! It appeared to be coming from the attachment that replaces the filter. Turns out that it was actually loose by 2 full turns!
I've never been a religious person but I'm praying it starts perfectly come morning.

Re: Hermione's Makeover
The problem appears to have been solved (knock on wood). After a VERY smokey start and some butt clenching there don't appear to be any leaks. I let it run on high idle for about 5-10 minutes (the longest I could without annoying the neighbours late at night). Tomorrow morning I'll drive it around a bit and see how it goes. I saw a couple drips coming from the alternator line but I think it was just oil from last night working it's way down as it appeared to stop after a couple minutes of running. I'm hoping these are the last of the oil headaches so I've posted a picture of my new memory foam topper that will sit atop my bed and hopefully there will be nothing but new projects to come.

Still with the mini horn.
