This stuff is an excellent cleaner for oil/diesel.

Every 15k or so, I do the following and will continue to do so :

Buy 4 cans of seafoam.

1 can for the crankcase (before oil change). Run it for 100km or so on the highway and then drain, and fresh oil change with new filters. You will notice a difference in the knocking and valves on your engine in a better way.

2 cans for the Injection Pump (before fuel filter change). As per above post, in/out hoses into a 1L bottle filled with seafoam and run close to emptying the bottle but not quite enough to suck in air.

1/2 can for the fuel filter. Buy a new fuel filter. Turn upside down, fill with seafoam (about 1/2 can) and spin on. Then run on highway or high idle (3k) for about 15 mins.

1/2 a can dump in the tank.

This whole process will make the engine feel like new.

The one 'issue' is that if you do not follow the instructions properly, you can do damage to the engine both internally and the fuel system.

Seafoam must be used with care.

The alternative is to have a diesel service shop clean the injectors/IP/lines.

The other 'issue' that I have with this product is that it will not do the 'full fuel system clean' on every diesel.

You can try it, but the possibility is that it may not work or not give you the results you expect.

On the other hand, a professional fuel service clean will give you consistent results.

Seafoam is best used on a good engine/fuel system.

If you are having problems with fuel issues, then the obvious would be to have a good diesel shop look at it.

If you have a problem with fuel and you use seafoam, there is also a possibility of making things worse in this example : seafoam in tank -> seafoam dislodges sludge/particles along the fuel line and plugs up your injection pump or injectors if it makes it that far. Then your performance gets worse. Another problem : your system seems fine but you have old seals that you are not aware of and you use seafoam. Seafoam can eat away at the seals making them leak.

Personally, I would only use it on a good engine with a good fuel system.

Yes.

It's the mechanical thingy that sits on the left side of the engine with the four bendy tubes coming out of it to the injectors. For further reading go to page 13B of the "L300 Fuel Delivery Systems Manual".

That combined with jfarsang's advice would be optimal (basically are saying the same thing).

Never used Seafoam on a Diesel but it used it with good results on gasoline engines. The smokescreen it would create when doing the 'suck it up-let it sit-start it up' procedure was always entertaining. ...Now that my Hilux does that every time I startup seafoam has lost some of its entertainment value.

I'm glad to hear peoples experiences with Seafoam on Delicas. I have friends who use it on their big diesel 4x4's and I've used it before on my SUV(pre-Delica days). Thanks jfarsang on the full walk-through. The stuff is cheap in the US btw. I paid $9 at Walmart for some and I think I paid around $15 at NAPA the last time I bought some here.

Speaking of cheap, I'm thinking next time I should just add 1 cup of white gas camping stove fuel (aka naphtha) and 1/2 cup of 99% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to a tankful for the same effect.

According to their MSDS data sheet, Seafoam is this stuff cut with #1 diesel.

Did my first flush with Seafoam today. I did the crankcase then the 2 hose plus jar suggested by JF and finally put the leftover in the new fuel filter and the rest in the tank. This stuff really did make a difference. It took a lot of the diesel rattle away, improved my idle and it felt as good as the CVI Delica Tune. The only disappointing part was I didn't get any of the white smoke they show on all the You Tube videos.

Another deal from the US. At O'Rielly Auto Parts until May 24 they have a deal of buy 2 cans of Seafoam get one free. That's 3 cans for $20 US. Their Wagner brakes have a rebate that is valid in Canada too.

There is no reason to put more than 1liter in your tank.

You 'can' put in as much as you want but you'll be smoking white like there's no tomorrow in the sense that you can get a fine, pulled over and it's dangerous to others behind you (smokescreen)

I asked because I have 3 one gallon bottles of the stuff
