Mid-intersection lane changes are illegal here in BC, though I doubt you will ever see a ticket handed out for it... I really think we should have to redo our driver's test - or at least a written test, when we renew our licenses - Keep sharp on the rules of the road....
RHD, LHD, whatever. We all know it makes no difference. If yer a with-it driver yer a with-it driver, if not, well, it doesn't matter what you're piloting....

Good of you to point that out, but IMHO there is little point in contacting the CADA; they are pursuing their own agenda, which is to increase their own sales by banning RHD imports. Period. No amount of arguments will cause them to do otherwise.

If you want to potentially have more of an effect, do as I have and contact/email the list of decision/policy-makers that marameisto gave earlier on in this thread.

CADA themselves can do nothing but run to the end of their collective chains and bark. Its the gub'mint that sets the rules, so they should receive the bulk of our attention.

Changing Lanes in Intersections

I am often asked to tell the motoring public that it is illegal to change lanes in an intersection. I cannot do this, because there is no specific rule prohibiting this driving action in the Motor Vehicle Act. However, a defensive driver will choose not to do this, even if it is legal.

The Motor Vehicle Act prohibits lane changes when doing so is unsafe or will affect the travel of another vehicle. In addition a driver must not change lanes if it means crossing a solid line. If there is no traffic in or near the intersection the lane change would be allowed as solid lines are not usually painted within intersections.

Keeping in mind that more than 50% of collisions in British Columbia occur in intersections, it is wise to keep vehicle movements there uncomplicated. This is why defensive driving prohibits making a lane change within the intersection. The choice removes one element of uncertainty for other drivers and that creates a safer driving environment.

In summary, choose the lane you want to use and occupy it well in advance of the intersection. If you decide that it is not the correct lane to use after all, wait until you are well clear of the intersection and then change lanes again as necessary. "

We all drive big billboards, make signs.. Anybody work at a vinyl sign shop? It couldn't be more than $20 a pop to get something made with some clear facts regarding RHD, and some facts regarding the statistical manipulation that is threatening our freedom to drive what ever vehicle we please.

Maybe we can get some 30 word or less idea's? Im so fed up, I'm willing to get two made.

Back to the topic...I just phoned the CADA @ Phone: 613-230-2079

the person I need to talk to just stepped out. I asked them to record:

1) That the are citing none peer reviewed biased studies
2) The study the are quoting have be shown to be statistically wrong
3) That in areas in Europe that RHD and LHD share the roads do not support this
4) That arguments that newer cars are safer are not supported in literature.
5) That if safety was a concern they would be more concerned with recalls of the car manufactures they represent.
6) That they should be held liable for intentional miss information and slander.

I will call back again in the next few days. If you have 3 minutes please take the time. A person picks up the phone making this a rewarding call.

He is the CADA mouthpiece for this, but seemed to be a pretty useless toolbox of a guy. Eventually he hung up.
I would encourage everybody interested to contact him!

Also, I think it might be wise to try and get CBC to publish our side of the story in the exact same format with quotes like
"I got hit with a piece of rusty chrapnal flying off a lifted F150 today, and couldn't even see the numbers on his rusty plate" etc etc.

We need to step up the campaign to educate people about RHD. These statements that driving position contributes to risk are deliberate misinformation, capitalizing on fear of the unknown. Fear is a proven motivator of public opinion.

What RHD needs is celebrity endorsement. I'm quite serious. We need our own publicity.

The CBC or any other news media outlet should be chomping at the bit to get our side of the story as it will provide conflict and conflicting views gather interest, which sells media. But we must be organised if we want to succeed, we can't just go shooting off at the mouth.
