Re: New member in Ontario - looking for Delicas in Ontario
I bought a space gear from micheal at right drive auto and I got more than expected. A model with more features, at a lower price than most in Canada. A reliable problem free delica was what I wanted, and I got it.
Also, I bug him regularly with right drive vehicle questions and he accommodates me every time.
I think he is a friendly guy and it's nice to know that his shop is a short drive away.

Re: New member in Ontario - looking for Delicas in Ontario
Hi, mike,
make sure you do the search. i have a call from some of my client that in ontario there is no need to change headlight & other thing like new tire dot or with weight stating mark on the tire.
pls be aware of this make sure if your buying this car, it should have a proper headlight. many of them in the road now that has been registered with the headlight that came from japan. registered & with plate.
have 2 cars now that has been registered in the road with plate & bald tire & Dot, E-mark code with no load rating in the tire. in short this wont pass the prov. inspection i guess even in ontario , its mandatory to change.
pls think safety not only to you but to other.
there is some discussion to some of our member that you dont need to change the headlight even you are in diff province that dont need to change headlight for left hand drive even without e-code, maybe its true or not.
i have nothing to say on that. as a registered dealer here in B.C., i dont do this thing even i know its a diff. province the car is going. it must comply for safety reason, this is just my opinion.we dont want to hurt anybody just because of the wrong beam pattern headlight using in canada.
as you know if many people think its o.k. not to change it. what will happen many people will get hurt because of this wrong headlight. soon it will turn out the government(FEDERAL) & tranport canada. will have no choice but to ban this RHD vehicle from japan or U.K. we will lost our full benefits on this RHD car from japan.
so hopefully as a new member it will be a good learning process to you when buying this car from japan(RHD).
it will cost you money than expected on your budget.
if need help we can supply you car that will be fully service.
call me pls if need help.
i ship car anywhere in canada

Just imported a L400 from Japan. Flew out to Vancouver, drove it back. Put new tires on it and flew thru the Ontario safety. Delica has 51000kms on it. Don't let dealers intimidate you. You can get a decent space gear for about 11K with low kms. I've been importing vehicles (for myself) for over six years. Waited three months and POW....licenced/insured and loving it !!!!

Re: New member in Ontario - looking for Delicas in Ontario
Nice to see there is some life on this website BTW.
What do you think they do in Europe with a mixture of LHD and RHD ?? Do people from the UK "swap out" their headlights when reaching the shores of France ?? C'mon people. If safety was the biggest concern we'd all wear helmets when we drove. It's only a matter of time before the noose tightens in Ontario, but I'm not going to wake up in a cold sweat worrying if I blinded someone 14 lanes over on the #401.

I've driven my deli on the 401 and you do need a pretty good hill and a tailwind to get up to speed to get anywhere near a center lane where you might see opposing traffic.....but.......if you are keeping your left skewed lights please take a moment to check the aim and maybe point them down a bit so when people pass you they can say" hey lookit that cool ride" as opposed to "hey is that one of those effin righthanders with the crappy lights, they oughta ban that jap tin"

Re: New member in Ontario - looking for Delicas in Ontario
Hi, Roadie,
sorry to say if you think this RHD headlight is right to used here in canada & not affecting the on coming car, your making a mistake. take a close look at night time where your present beam pattern pointing. buy or borrow some Delica L400 spacegear which has the correct headlight pattern & compare; you see the difference, we as a dealer here in B.C. do constantly communicate thru prov. inspection representative regarding this issue. about headlight & other thing to comply. they are keeping this topic open & if soon many people dont do comply they will be eyeing it to close down this right hand drive vehicle that came from japan.
you have your own opinion & we do respect it. but the government only need is safety for the other people.
this is there main point, not to hurt anybody or create accident that will cause other people life.
this is only a car. but we cannot replace somebodys life just because of the wrong headligth other vehicle is using.
pls think, me & other people spend money & time to make this right but hopefully you dont encourage other people not to change jap headlight to the correct beam pattern headlight:
as per your saying regarding in europe that they dont change when resident of england (UK) vehicle travel to france & spain, for your info.
they do put the sticker & stick it to there headlight. this sticker was design to correct the beam pattern to left hand drive but its only temporary when they visit france, spain & other neighbor country which used left hand drive car. so they are doing there best over there for safety.
i do buy this sticker & ask provincial inspection officer & they decline it only a temporary solution.
they explaine it to me & say we need it the permanent one. as we are in north america which uses left hand drive vehicle from canada, us to mexico.
as this point hope you understand. they want us to educated our self not to ignore this.
as per dealer your saying dont intemidate by dealer regarding selling this type of car.
pls we as a dealer dont intemidate anyone from buying from dealer or private its there right where they want to choose. no offense. we live in a free country.
we coordinate to all the client & customer who wish to buy this type of vehicle.
we just want them to educate & teach how this rhd vehicle works & used in A left hand drive country.
this is what the government want us to do:
important is the safety 100%
hope this help you to understand this RHD vehicle.
lastly, this is just my opinion & hopefully we respect other people opinion.
Cheers;

Well said, Marty.
Roadie, do the community a favour and put the correct lamps in, the last thing we need to do is give the CADA more fire power. It's bad enough they're trying to steal our lunch money.

Re: New member in Ontario - looking for Delicas in Ontario
Guys, I'm not trying to pick a fight. However, the law in Ontario does not require DOT or E code headlights for safety. After driving RHD vehicles with RHD headlights for six years here, and never being pulled over, you want me to fork out money for what ??
I've been driving for 24 years, no tickets or violations EVER. I pay among the lowest premiums possible. In Saskatchewan a local Canadian Tire said I must lower a LandCruiser I purchased to have it pass safety. Afterwards, the lift kit could be re-installed. WTF ??? The hoops RHD vehicle owners must jump thru are for the most part, to deter people from purchasing them.
Understandably this website is focused predominantly towards the west coast, and I respect your opinions. But if the law in Ontario does not require me to change my headlights, why can't you respect that ??
