Cool! It is okay for me to like the sporting aspect of the Olympics but not all the other stuff. Good to know.

I love the Olympics, best two weeks on tv. I am not a fan of the IOC though. I love Team Canada, even if they lose. Go Team Canada.

please read this essay for a perspective on why people are protesting the olympics, and how protesting the olympics has already raised the profile of homelessness and dislocation in Vancouver.

Re: Are we allowed to like the Olympics?
I'm wondering if we're allowed to not give a rat's exhaust pipe either way about the Olympics. I've never objected particularly nor tried to stop anything like this but frankly, I can hardly wait 'til it's all behind us. I like some sports, especially hockey and the excitement & fun and all that is all good fun but IMO, ultimately; the Olympics are just another mega-corporate profiteering festival. Just my .02 worth.DelicaMark wrote:All I see everywhere is the negative about the Olympics. I know they cost 100's of millions of dollars that could be spent in areas that need it much more.
But, is it okay that I like to watch the Oylmpics on tv? Gasp! I watch tv too! Is it okay that I enjoy the sport part of it? Is it okay that I don't care that the atheletes in most cases are full-on professionals getting paid for their dedication? Is it okay that I like the fact that I am watching the top atheletes in the world and not a bunch of amateurs?
Must I hate them too?
I'm here to learn.
