Every Delica that I've driven in that came without the rear swaybar from the factory, drove just like the Delica's with the swaybars. Swapped tires, shocks, swaybars, etc... and no difference.

Until you go on a logging road, bumpy road or offroad. Then the swaybar becomes a nuisance as it limits the articulation which cause the van to topple side to side considerably more than if it's not fitted.
Hard cornering in a P35W with crystal lite... definitly the sway bar makes a difference... although probably small.

I've known several people with lifted & modified Cherokees, and most of them have disconnectable sway bars. On guy admits that on-road without sway bars is scary, and off-road with sway bars doesn't work well. So the disconnect link are very necessary.

92 exceed had it stock...removed it when I went to longer shackles...no notable difference in driving other than more room underneath for the new exhaust routing. :-D

What could be the reason why some have it and some don't? Looks like it doesn't depend on the model neither on the year.

I found no rhyme nor reason.

I do know after testing it with/without on a bunch of Delica's that there is no difference on the road. Offroad is where it makes a very noticeable difference.

AfterOil,

Did you replace any of your bushings at the front? I did mine plus got a good alignment and I don't experience what you describe at all. Trust me, coming back through Alberta with a stupidly strong head wind forced me to duck behind semi-trucks and barely keeping to 90km/h but no shacking. And the swaybar dissapeared long ago... Whale-Tailing has been an interesting subject before... 8-)

all my bushings are good. replaced the sway bar bushings this summer before my trips. the shaking isnt like a speed shaking, its more like a quick sway side to side. the van is loaded with gear and WVO when i travel.
