Yes gst is in there.
Also if you're importing make sure your invoice is an original, signed and has the vehicle cost seperate from shipping and transport fees otherwise you get taxed on it all

Fee's when importing yourself:
(If shipped RO/RO)
GST 5%
Duty 6.1%
A/C Tax $100
Soil inspection $46
RO/RO Unloading $105
(If Shipped Container)
GST 5%
Duty 6.1%
A/C Tax $100
Soil inspection $46
Container Unloading $250 - $500 (Depending on who unloads your container)
If you use a Broker added another $200 to either cost..
Hope that helps..

so from those numbers, assuming a delica costing $6000-8000 in Japan (I know, many are cheaper, but I'm intentionally aiming high here for this estimate) you are talking about somewhere in the neighbourhood of $1000 to get your hands on it once it's landed. So that leaves another question, what type of cost are we looking at these days to get a Delica here by RO/RO vs Container? (the actual shipping part)

When I get back home on monday I'll post one of my imports... costs etc...
The duty, gst, pst all get charged on your invoice cost in Japanese yen and customs does their own exchange rate at the time your purchased it in japan which is why those taxes will be very high if you pay now for a jdm in japan. When it arrives here and you clear it through customs, it doesn't matter if the exchange rate is in your favor then.
Shipping varies a lot from one exporter or importer to another. I've shipped container for 800 can and roro for 1,600 can. Have to shop around if you have that option.

Shipping is always a pain as the prices change all the time..
if you have 4 cars coming in a container you can get a good deal.. however that deal sometimes just stinks because of the extra costs on this side to unload the container.
Al always estimate $1200 for shipping that covers RO/RO or container..
I have 8 cars landing in sept.. 4 in container, 4 RO/RO..
shipping was about the same on all.. however the container ones will cost me more because of unloading and container moving fee's..
I ship container when i want cars here in less then a month from purchase.. (for clients that need cars ASAP)

Have you had much trouble with theft/vandalism/loss on Ro/Ro?

None, ever for the exception of one tool kit.
That's over a period of 4 years and 14 vehicles between 3 people.

Had a Shift knob stolen once..

as a precaution I remove the gauges and such, and put them in the boot/glove box.
but over all never an issue..
5 years and running so far..

I think any person who believes you can get a Delica here in great shape both cosmetically/mechanically for under $6-8,000 is thinking in the past.
Here's one of my imports this year :
Reason I'm posting this is because anyone can get this information by simply adding up all the numbers.
Once you do it all, it's very easy to see that importing one vehicle by yourself does not net you much savings, if any at all unless you get very lucky.
I don't bank on luck when I'm shelling out 10k.
0.0131 JPY exchange rate at time of purchase in Japan
Delica - JPY 350,000
inland transport - 28,700
---------
JPY 378,700 = $4,960
wire transfer - $ 25
shipping - $1,690
wire transfer - $ 25
-------------
Delica in Japan + shipping == $6,700
................................................................
Customs:
duty 6.1% - $ 302
(delica) GST 5% - $ 248
A/C fee - $100
brokerage - $250.00
agricultural inspection - $ 45.00
ocean terminal fee - $ 65.00
-------------
Customs in Canada == $1,010
................................................................
Compliance:
L400 LHD headlights - $800
Front/Rear brakes - $480
31" Tires - $860
Full detail - $120
All Fluids changed - $190
Full tank of diesel+conditioner - $85
Belts/timing - $230
Bulbs + reflectors - $22
-------------
Compliance + repairs in Canada == $2,787
......................................................
Delica $4,960
Customs $ 1,010
Compiance $ 2,787
ICBC registration PST 6% : $297
-----------
total $9,054
On top of that, I take my time to get everything done. About 4-5 full working days and driving around/temp insurance, etc.... Taking that time off and getting it all done adds another $1,400.
Once it's all done, I'm close to $11,000 and even then, I have to make sure that everything is A-1 shape mechanically. I can easily set aside another $1-1,500 for mechanic repairs soon.
So taking that into consideration, you don't save a lot.
In fact, given my costs and time above along with the waiting and headaches that come with importing, it would have been much easier on me and family having bought one locally from Mardy.
My 2 cents.

I can attest that is the same van in the ad's and it is in fact AutoRec's registered L400, not Terra2's.
Terra2 just took all of AutoRec's information on it and re-posted it on their own site.
Kind of like a middle-middle man. They are slick, I'll give them that.
Hopefully Terra2 takes that off their site and no one pays them for it because it's on a boat heading here in a few weeks

yeah, I like their site as it has lots to look at and is well designed, I just don't think i would ever buy from them with all the proof I have seen that they charge much more than pretty much everyone else for that level of product and service they provide.
