Well I WAS supposed to drive down to Van in the AM, but looking at the traffic cams down there-- scenes that would be normal up here look much scarier down there when I think of who else is on the road with me (ie. not all careful and conscientous Deli drivers like forum members...)

They are some awsome pictures thanks so much

That is about as close I will get to snow again this year, apart from the little bit we get that is about 20mm at the very most and turns to slush after about 10 minutes

Altough I pretty sure some of you don't share my excitment at being snowed in :-)

Ah well, I wish I could share your enthusiasm Drooper, but for me it's more of a endurance thing. Not to be a curmugeon, and it is what it is, but I just prefer the rain :? What a difference a few hours can make eh? And it's not over yet. It is a little warmer though, so that's a good thing :-)

Thank you all so much I really jealous.

Like I say I'm sure that most of you won't be as excited by the snow as I am, you always get it.

I'd love to wake up tomorrow morning to some of that but I think it more likely to be a few puddles and that is it

Imagine this as your porch, and say good morning! 12 cm of fresh snow and more on the way. Nothing like the dump Glen is dealing with, but still plenty to have fun in!

Well, actually, those of us on Vancouver Island (S/E and central, anyway) don't always get it! There is generally one or two snow events every winter, but not every year, and often it turns to rain straight away so it doesn't linger. The folks in Prince George or Calgary (pretty much the rest of Canada) now they really do always get it! And hey Glen, what's it like now after last night's dump - supposed to continue all day too  You're gonna have 2 meters on those delis in your lot! :M Oh, OK: :-D

Hey Drooper, I had to send you a couple of shots of the peak of the snow here - Oh God, I hope it's the peak  Pretty warm now and the main roads are wet. This was a BIG dump for us and colder than usual too. Happy day! :-D

Usually at this time of year we're around 5 or 6C and maybe down to or a little below freezing at night. It's not uncommon to have a whole winter with only a few nights of frost; at or near sea-level, anyway. This past bout of weather we were down to -12C and in places lower on the Island and across the straight on the mainland the winds were strong and intensified the cold to make if it feel like -20 or even colder. Big dumps of snow that linger on don't happen every year either and hence the reason most towns here on the Island are terrible about clearing the road and walk ways. The south east quarter of Vancouver Island, the Lower mainland of BC, and the Gulf Islands inbetween (esp. Victoria and the Gulf Islands) are very temperate and mild. I really don't mind a snow event once in a while, but it does kinda get in the way of working and the recreations I like to do. It is pretty though :-)

-20

Thats cold!!

I'll still have some of it though bring it on I can take it!! :-D :-D Not sure about the other half though she likes it hot.

And the kids may have a problem with it too.

But seriously the 5 or 6 is fine and -12 would be ok to, we don't quite get it down that low here very often very rare to get below -4 or 5.

When we had some icy weather at the begining of November I thought we would be in for a hard winter but as of yet nothing more than some frost and rain!

Was it still white when you got up today?

Yeah! The first time in decades that the whole of Canada was snow covered for Christmas. It was a beautiful clear day here.

You lot really do have some gorgeous scenery.

And when it covered in snow it looks even better.

We had sun shine most of the day

Wish I could have some of that it would be nice for the kids to have some proper snow!

Oh and Konadog, that is a gorgeous looking place you have there. :-)
